Chairman Nickerson wrote the following letter: Mr. George J. Fisher, M. D., 124 East 28th St., New York City. Dear Mr, Fisher: I have been run- ning a Tug of War league here for the last month and during one of ihe contests a little dispute arose between two teams and I will state the facts as clearly as possible as I would iike your opinion of same, as I would like boh teams to be sure to get a square deal in the matter. Now on these nights when we haq the contests we had a large audience in the galery each night and on this night we had an_extra large crowd, The two teams took their positions on the boards to pull. We had one man for budge and one for timekeeper. The timekeeper anncunced every hald minute, also stated where the rope was, in whose favor, until the 3 min- utes time limit up. Now when these two teams, the St. Mary's so- to ciety and the Third Co. started pull, the rope see-sawed back forth until the 2 1-2 minute period eached when the Third Co. gained 3 hes. Then the crowd in the galle: started to cheer and at the same tims the timer announced 2 1-2 minutes, 3 inches for Third Co. The anchor for Third Co. mistook the tmer to say 3 minutes instead of 3 inches and e supposed that the time was up, got up from hiS position on the board and walked away. Then the dispute arose, the timekeeper did not state when the 3 minute period was up and nobody knows where the rope was at the 3 minute period. Well, the judge and the two cap- tains went into the office to settle the matter. The Third Co, team wanted to pull it over and the St. Mary’s cap- -ould not pull over, claiming they bad won it when the Third Co. team left the board. The judge was in favor of both teams pulling it over, but as the St. Mary's team would not pull again the judge awarded the contest to the St. Mary's team on_the ground team’'s anchor left the day or two after 1 receive as chai 1 of the tug of war com- mittee, a protest from the Third C protesting the matter on the grounds that the other A board. that the timer never announced wh time was up or On Irere the rope was. receiving this protest 1 had the ary call a meeting at_once of the committee, which consisted of the of the teams, to take acti cn the protest at once, which they and voted 4 to 2 in favor of having the teams pull over 1 am writing to you to get your opinion on the wat- | ter as this contest decides the win- ner of team has 1 contest = sincerely, NICKERSON, rsical Director i he ceived My L thing be that again. ot completed.
