A horse which was attached to a sleigh became frightened on Nor- wich avenue near the Ponemah mills and ran up Providence street. Then the animal turned the corner near the post office and started down South Front street. When the animal came within twenty-five feet of the Taftville pharmacy it took to the sidewalk. At this point there is a tree and tele- phone pole and a team was sStanding near the pole. The frightened steed swung around between the pole and team sending a bystander who tried to stop the horse up against the team. On a quick turn into the alley way near the drug store the sleigh tipped over hut this did not check the mad pace of the horse who went up wading thropgh clothes liens on the incline in the rear of the houses and finally came to a stop after it slipped up and fell. Several men tried to climb the incline in a hurried fashion to cap- ture the horse and fell repeatedly, owing to the slipperiness of the snow crust. The groundhog’s decision to end the winter is coincident with the appear- ances of the pussywillow on Vergason Hill.
