Friday evening, July 3, the celebra- tion of the national holiday wes ush- ered in by a grand concert and dance in Union hall given by the Voluntown brass band. The features of the con- cert were the instrumental solo work of Director William Richards, who ren- dered solos on ‘the violin, cornet and clarinet in his usual pleasing manner. The two numbers by the Romona club wer esung in fine voice and received well earned applause. The band play. ed a number of selections in their usua! | excellent manner. After the concert the balance of the evening was spent in dancing. How the Fourth Was Enjoyed. The chief celebration of Saturday was_the -clambake for the benefit of St. Thomas' church held near the en- trance to the ball grounds. A large crowd enjoyed the many diversions provided until time for the serving of dinner by Henry Lamphere of Mys:ic, a former resident of this town, who received many compliments from the diners for the excellent bake. After the dinner all adjourned to the ball game to see Manager Sheldon’s boys put a cloud over the All Stars from Norwich, which they did by the score of 12 to 1. Manager Hughes' boys were outclassed at all points of the game. The day’s celebration ended With a dance in Union hall. Games in Prosnect. The local ball team goes to Taftville this afternoon to play the fast Pone- mah mill team. Tomorrow afternoon Sterling will be the attraction here. The camping season at Beach pond is in full swing and many camping par- ties are enjoving the cool breezes in tent and cottage. On Sunday at the camp of the Bouchee famijly there were 45_inciuding campers and guests. Henry Jarvis, who was accidentaily shot in’the leg while after woodchucxs on the evening of the Fourth at the home of his father-in-law, Edward Dayon, is well known here, being a former pitcher for the local ball team.
