The regular meeting of the Xens was held at the First Baptist church Friday evening with a goodly number Dresent. In the @bsence of the presi- €ent, John B. Oat, vice president, took the chair. After the secretary’s report ond the uspal -business, an interesting report was given by the concert com- mittee on the Canadian jubilee siog- ers-who -are -to -be here ‘in the near future. A literary programme was presented by the entertainment com- mittee: Miss. Minnie Wilson gave an interesting reading ‘on_Helen Gould. Jacob F. Starkweather gave a reading on the life of Horace Greeley, with- Lolding the name, which was quickly guessed by those present. Mrs. Charles Cobb chose as her subject Elizabeth Barrett Browning; Mrs. Edward Leach, Joan of Arc, and John B. Oat, Francisco Fizarro. One of the most enjoyable numbers ©° the evening was an original poem on The Rose of New. England, or The City Beautiful, by Mrs, Jacob Stark: Weather. The encore given Mrs. Stark- ‘Wweather proved the members present appreciated the homage shown to our eity. Wailter M. Cowan followed with a talk on Henry W. Longfellow and gave the favorite poem Karames, J. E. C. Leach interested all with Aaron Burr. Miss Katie - Willey was enter- iaining in her paper on Louisa Emma Oicott, and Mrs. J. B.
