In the rgeent entrance examinations of the Norwich Free Academy Albert Bradlow of the Newent school, town of Lisbon, passed very successfully. In most of his studies he stood ‘over 90 per cest.; in one, history, he reached 96. This speaks well for the work of both the boy and his teacher, Nellie S. Carpenter. Dodge of Putnam acted as accompanist. Second Fire Within a Month. About 4.30 Wednesday the cottage of Herbert W. Bowen, which was oc- cupied for the summer by J. (& League, was found to be on fire. Mrs. League and Miss <O'Neil, who were sleeping. upstairs, found thelr way down the stairs blocked by smoke and flames and were obliged to jump off a plazza roof to reach the ground. A smal] part of the furniture on the low- er floor was saved. Mrs. League lost wearing apparel and jewelry. Mr. Bowen, who occuplies the cottage win- ters, lost a valuable library which he has been years in collecting, besides valuable furniture and ocurios which he secured during his diplomatic ser- vice In Spain and Venezuela. The loss is partially covered by Insurance. On Tuesday a fire was built in the firs- place. Whether the fire caught from a spark or a defective chimney is nnt known. On the afternoon of July 3d the oth- er cottage of Mr. Bowen, about four hundred. feet away, was burned. It is a remarkable fact that one owner should have two fires within a month.
