A, Tibbetts' Barn Burned to Ground—No Insur- ancn—’nflnt Died in Mother's Arms in Str About 2 o'clock Monday afternoon Mrs. S. A. Tibbetts noticed smoke is- Suing from every crack and crevice of the barn on her farm. On going to the barn, she found a load of hay which had been left standing on the barn floor burning fiercely. Mrs. Tibbetis was alone at the time, save for her six year old grandson, Chester Gor- don, of Montville. who denied at first the charge of having set fire to the load of hay, but afterwards admitted his guilt. Mrs. Tibbetts did what she could to extinguish the blaze, but all her efforts were fruitiess, and the blaze soon crept into the mows, which were filled with the season’s crop which had just been harvested. Mrs. Tibbetts then directed her ntten)ion to saving the livestock that was' in the barn, an dwhen Herbert Houston arrived shortly after he found her almost over- come with smoke and excitemeni, and carried her from the burning building. Quite a goodly number had gathered by this time and their combined ef- forts saved a shed and henhouse near by, also some farming utensils. The house is situated only a short distance from where the barn stood, but fortu- nately the wind carried the blaze away from the house. There was no insur- ance on the building or its contents.
