LETTERS FROM TWO STATES New London County LEDYARD John M. Gray Superintendent of Sun- day School for 20th Year—Grange Celebrated Its Fifth Anniversary. The election of Sunday school offl- cers was held at the Congregational church Sunday after the regular ser- vices. John M. Gray was unanimous- 1y re-elected superintendent of the school. Mr. Gray enters upon his 39th year as superintendent of the Sunday school. Mrs. Isauc G. (leer was elected assistant superintondent. The annual missiopary meeting was held at the residence of Mrs. John M. Gray Thursday afternoon. Grange Has Birthday Cake. Ledyard grange held its regular meeting in the vestry of the church Saturday evening with Mrs, Ursula Avery as master in the chair. Over 50 were In attendance. Deputy Irving Crouch and Mrs. Crouch of Groton were present and both spoke on the good of the order. The lecturer’s hour was in charge of Mrs. Frederick W. Burton, lecturer. S. E. Holdridge read a humorous selection and Mrs. Lizzie Colver gave a monologue. The lec- turer then said this was the fifth an- niversary of the grange and each mem- ber was asked to respond to something humorous, whict: nearly all did. An excellent supper was served at the close. One of the features was a large fruit cake made by the worthy lec- turer, upon which five candles burned, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the grange. At the close Mrs. Irv- ing Crouch, wife of the worthy deputy, was asked to cut thg birthday cake, and all received a piece. Leslie P. Gray was a Sunday guest of his brother, John R. A week's mission given by a La Sal- lette Father was concluded Sunday, gervices being held as follows: mass at 7, celebrated by IFather rissey, at which large numbers recetved holy communion; 10 high mass, celebrated by the mission father, who preached an eloguent sermon In French and Bnglish; special music was ren- dered by the cheir; at 3.30, the closing exercises of the mission, which con- sisted of singing of hymns by the con- gregation, sermons in French and Engiish by the father, the rosary, the consecration of the parish to the vir- gin, the papal benediction and bene- diction of the blessed sacrament. The services throughout the week were well attended, large numbers approaching the sacraments. The Misses Boucher of the choir at Glasgo at high mass on Sunday returned here in time to fur- nish music at the high mass here. Lecture by Professor Drake. On Sunday evening Professor Drake of Boston gave an ilustrated lecture on the Passion Play of Oberammerg: in Unlon hall to a large audience. The lecture was given under the auspices of St. Thomas’' church and was very instructive. Professor Drake, who ha studied the play for years, gave graphic account of the passion of our Lord as depicted on the screen before his audience.
