The head which is in a good state of preserva- tion, is a relic of the whaling days in New London. Shot Thieving Deer. For severai weeks Peter Barber has been bothered by damage done to his gariden in Pequot. Wednesday morn- ing he found five deer feeding on his beans and rpeas. Mr. Barber having his shot gun with him shot the buck, which was a four year old, weighing about two-hundred ponds. Mr. Barber estimates the dJamage done to his vegetables to be one hundred dollars. [ The game warden was notified and in- structed Mr. Barber to dispose of the carcass as he wished. Roscoe Dart has returned after a week spent in camp at Mumford’s Cove. The work of wiring the village of Occum is being rapidly pushed by the contractors. The Norwich Electrical company. has secured the contract for the wiring of St. Joseph's church and rectory. Repairs on the waste gate of the Occum company’'s dam are nearing completion. Peter Duquztte has secured the prop- erty and a portion of the business of John Quinn and will take possession about the middle of the month. The grocery business will be tdken care of at Mr. Quinn’s store in Versailles. Mr, Quinn will move into his Versailles residence recently purchased from the Uncasville Manufacturing company. The remodeling of the residence of John Coffey is rapidly nearing comple- tion. When completed this will add much to the appearance of the village. To Close School in Raymond District. A meeting of the school board was held in the town hall, Monday evening. Contracts were let for making repairs to the schoclhouses in the fourth and fifth districts. It was decided to close the school in the Raymond district ang transport the pupils to the White Birch district. Miss Hart of Montville has been engaged to teach another year in the White Birch district. Miss Eva M. Standish of Westchester will teaci again in the Central district. NORTH STONINGTON Baptist Sunday School Outing ¢te ‘Pleasant View—Charles H. Broek- way Able to Leave Hospital. The Third Baptist Sunday school had its annual picnic at Pleasant View Wednesday. A special car of the Norwich & Westerly Traction com- pany carried the party, which num- bered over one hundred. The time was passed in social intercourse, games and bathing. A varied and appetizing lunch was served at noon. Discharged from Hospital. Charles H. Brockway has returned from Hartford where he entered a hos- pital for surgical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Bayard D. Burton was in Norwich om business two dayvs this week. ~A party of nine from Glasgo went fishing in Pachaug pond one night this week. They did not have very good success as one of the party while try- ing to adjust some bait to a hook, came more interested in his lend than in the bait and tipped the box of bait into the water. They caught one fish. Miss Mabel Burdick, who has been ill is better. R. H. Young and Lafayette Wilcox went out with Mr, Young's fox hound, Sport, about six o'clock Saturday morning. At nine o'clock Mr. Young had -so thoroughly disabled Sir Rey- nard that he can never catch another turkey. Rev. G. D.
