Surprise Gift for Miss Groves—Tent- ing at Beach Pond—Auto Accident. Friday evening about thirty young friends of Miss Hilda Groves surprised her at her home. As a token of the esteem of her many friends a hand- - some gift was presented Miss Groves, after which a plessant evening was passed, music and games keeping the party busy until 2 late hour. Ice cream and cake were served during the evening. Glasgo Defeated. Saturday afternoon a geod sized del- egation of baseball fans went to Glas- g0 to see the Glasgo-Sterling game, which was won by the latter team aft- er a hard fought contest, lasting eleven innings. On_Tuesday afternoon during the thunder shower, lighining entered the barn at the jail, doing no damage oth- er than knocking over a prisoner who was milking a cow and badly fright- ening the horses and cattle in the barn. Lightning Damages Richmond House. Lightning entered the house of Elmer E. Richmond Tuesday afternoon, going into every room, tearing off plastering and burning carpets as it want. The bolt seemed to come out of a clear sky. Mr. Richmond, who was working in a field near by, thought he had been struck, ‘his head felt so bad, but he saw the lightning go into his house, entering every window, and he ran for the house as fast as he could.
