These are the only cases under official investigation, and with that. of Bliven are the only deaths that oc curred on tHe Connecticut side of the Pawcatuck river. The coroner made inguiries as to the death of Bliven, but made no special Investigation, as he considered the conditions _different than in the Larrow and Hood cases. The two deaths in Pawcatuck were followed in the evening by the deaths of Cornelius Crandall and Joseph Ben® in Main street. On Friday Lena Blanchard, who declared that she bought whiskey in Westerly the pre- ceding day, died in Avondale. Satur- day afternoon William Perrin died in Ashaway, and in the evening Edward Doherty died suddenly in Moss street. All the Rhode Island cases have re ceived visitation and examination of the medical examiner, but as there vas no suspiclous circumstances in connection with the deaths there was no investigation by the coroner, But for the belief that there is criminal conditions in connection with the deaths of Larorw and Hood, “poisoned whiskey” would probably ~ have not been mentioned in connection with the other deaths, although some might have been atributed to alcoholism, couched in the more subdued term of heart disease. It is not very long ago that three sudden deaths occurred, not far apart, of men who were in the habit of drink. intoxicting Hquor to excess very frequently, but not even a hint was expressed ‘that they died from drink ing poisoned whiskey.
