The blots represent a few of the outrages, acts of violence and infractions of the laws and constitution during the last two years. The Minnesota Leader says there have been over 200 specific authenticated reports of such crimes AND NOT ONE PERSON PUNISHED FOR THEM. HE farmer-labor forces of Minnesota have com- menced a “law-and-or- .der”: campaign, prelimi- nary . to the elections next year. It has been determined that the leading plank of the organized political movement, which is fighting the politico-business combination now in control of the state,.will be one ‘calling for enforce- meént of the laws and constitutions. The farmer-labor candidate for gover- nor next. year, whoever he is, will be the “law-and-order” candidate. Labor- and farmer publications in the state are carrying on an intensive campaign on this issue and will con- tinue to do so right up to the 1920 election. A recent issue of the Min- nesota Leader, the official state paper of the Minnesota branch of the Nation- al Nonpartisan league, had a large map on its front page, showing the "state of Minnesota bespattered with large blots, each 'blot representing some' mob outrage, violent suppression of legitimate meetings, some deporta- tion, tar or feathering, lynching or other proceeding happening in the last two years. The reign of terror against farmer and labor organizations and others who oppose reforms or election of candidates in opposition to the present corporation-standpat ring control did not end with the war. Made bold by thinly veiled newspaper incitements to mob and “direct action” against political opponents and others with whom they disagreg, lawless groups recently deported an ex-congressman who was speaking on the league of nations covenant in a small Minnesota town. Minneapolis has experienced several riots, the latest being "the smaghing of a book store and carrying off of books to be burned. In many places in the state local authorities still suspend the right of free speech and peaceful assembly as guaranteed by the constitution. As showing a trend toward, instead of away from, lawlessness and sanity, a court in Minnesota recently held “commend- able” mob’deportations of citizens with whom mobs differed on political and economic questions. = ° The Minnesota Leader states that there have been during the last two years over 200 authenticated cases of violations of the constitution, deporta- tions, rotten-egging, beating and ston- ing of farmers, tar and feathering, lynching, destruction of property by mobs, yellow painting of houses and autos, turning' fire' hoses on men and women at peaceful meetings and other persecutions concerning which the big daily press has been practically silent : and for which NOT A SINGLE IN- DIVIDUAL HAS BEEN PUNISHED, UNDER THE POLICY OF _GOV- ERNOR- BURNQUIST, WHO HAS EVEN PERMITTED CONNIVANCE OF PEACE OFFICERS IN THESE CRIMES. Somerrecent elections in the East, notably in Massachusetts, on a “law- and-order” issue, have -encouraged the progressive forces of Minnesota to believe the electorate of the state next year will be sympathetic to a law-and- order candidate who will guarantee enforcement of the laws and constitu- tion, thus restoring sanity and mak- ing possible an orderly discussion of political and economic issues, and their settlement at the ballot box, under ‘traditional American democracy and fair p’ay, with government by an in- formed majority of the people: « PAGE FOURTEEN ADVERTISEMENTS 2 This Victoty Red [ 38 Persian Ivory g Pendant and Neck - Chain, 30 inches long, these s 4 Gold plated Rings and this lovely Gold plated Lavalliere and Neck Chain will ALL be Given FREE by us to any- one selling only 12 pieces of Jewelry at 10 cents each and returning - the $1.20 to us, Victory Red is all the rage, B.
