Ten millions of this sum goes into mortgage loans on the best security in the world, farm lands, and will be more secure even than the money the bankers have hitherto lent because the rate of interest to be charged is lower. The state bank will have a capital of $2,000,000 and the mill and elevator association a capital of $5,000,000. Being profit-earning projects, these sums should no more be con- sidered additions to the state debt than the capital stock of a pri- vate business corporation is con- sidered as“a debt. They are in- vestments. They will pay their own way and in addition render handsome returns to citizens who need the new state services. Another Anti-League Book on Market (Continued from page 4) discredit these writings, OR I MAY BE ASSASSINATED.” The last words are added in pencil in Quigley’s handwriting. Mr. Quig- ley evidently is rather fearsome. . But no one has heard yet of any attempt to assassinate Quigley. Quigley includes in his- book a “Challenge to ‘A. C. Townley.” The “challenge” is for a series of debates in all League states between Mr. Townley and Quigley. Quig'ey sug- gests that they ‘charge 25 cents for admission and then divide the pro- ceeds. Quigley says he will give all his share above $150 a month to the Red Cross. This is a good scheme to get crowds, on the strength of Mr. Townley’s drawing power as a speaker, and give Quigley a ¢hance to get $150 a month. He is out of a job now. Mr. Townley has no intention of accepting the ‘“challenge.” Quigley says that if Townley does not want to make all the speeches for the League, Arthur LeSueur or William Lemke (Quigley spells it “Lembke”) can make some of the speeches. LeSueur and Lemke are not going to talk for Quigley’s benefit either. If Mr. Townley makes any speeches, in Nebraska or else- where, he will not charge admission. If Mr.~Quigley wants to make any .speeches he is at perfect liberty to -do so. - He can charge admission fees or not as he pleases. Mr. Townley is perfectly willing to let the people decide.
