FIGURES REFUTE SLANDERS A review of the 1918 season dis- closes a generous and patriotic re- ‘sponse by the North Dakota farmers to the nation’s call for a greater acre- age of foodstuffs. The -cultivated acreage in North Dakota this season was 16,000,000 acres, exceeding the record acreage of 1917 by 1,365,000 acres, or an increase of about 9 per cent. These acreage figures best show the great effort put forth by the farm- ers. Credit is also due to county agri- cultural agents, business firms and people of the cities and towns over the“state who at harvest materially was entirely confined to the bread food crops, wheat and rye. Wheat showed an unusually heavy increase of 11 per cent. Rye acreage showed a tremendous increase of practically. 100 per cent over the harvested acre- age in 1917, notwithstanding the fact that slightly more than 10 per cent of the fall planted acreage was plowed down last spring. North Dakota leads the United States this season in the, harvested acreage of all wheat, bar- ey, rye and flax.—UNITED STATES BUREAU ‘OF CROP ESTIMATES. T b =
