Editor Nonpartisan Leader: I wish to call the attention of the readers of the Leader to an incident here in Kansas. - A Kansas woman while visiting her relatives in North Dakota learned from her brother there about the Nonpartisan league. Her brother urged her to get her husband to join and lend all possible assistance to the organization. In the section where she lived the farmers had heard nothing but the lies of the kept press and were, conse- quently, to gome extent prejudiced. When she went home this woman be- gan boosting for the League and through her efforts the whole town- ship signed up. . When the farmers see the light they should put it where it will shine. BIG DEMAND FOR MECHANICS IN THE REPAIR SHOPS AND ON THE FARMS My TODAY IS — — School Will Train You to Qualify for the Job of Master Mechanic. P— — — pr— po— YOUR CHANCE—IMPROVE IT YOU CAN LEARN It is only a step from the small wage to the big pay envelope. Just a little matter of a few weeks’ training here in my school. Who is getting the fat pay envelope now—the trained man or the untrained man? No guesser ever won and held a big job with the fat pay envelope. If you don’t know, you can’t grow. Why depend upon haphazard ways when you can get this thorough training in a few short weeks’ time? Are you doing everything you can? Are you making $10.00 per day? If not—why not? Are you the kind that wants, but doesn’t get—the kind that wishes but doesn’t act, or what is the trouble? ¢It is wanting things and ‘get- ting them that counts—nothing else is worth a whoop. There is always a way—the impos- sible is being done every day. It isn’t a question of whether you can afford to take this course, but a question of whether you can afford not to take it. TIE YOUR FUTURE TO THE MOTOR INDUSTRY 150,000 men will read this advertisement. Thousands of mechanics and gas engine men are needed badly in the shops and on the farms. How many of these 150,000 readers -are going to see this opportunity and how many who do see it will have the good judgment and self-determination to grasp it? Like everything else that is good, too few ‘see their op- portunity and take advantage Nanton, Alta., Canada, September 10, 1918, Iowa State Automobile and Tractor School, Mr. F. D. Hennessy, Pres., Sioux City, Iowa. Dear Mr. Hennessy: I recelved the second copy of ‘School News’” today, and cer- tainly thank you for your thoughtful- ness in sending them, also I feel that I must apologize for not acknowledg- ing the other one, for it is almost as good as being back down in Sioux City to read all the news of the school and letters of the fellows I knew there, Speaking about training, I am go- ing to tell you what one of the R. A. F. recruiting officers told me in Calgary the other da showed him my diploma. ing to him about joining u asked me if I knew anythin a gasoline motor. I sald and handed him my diploma. loocked it over and said, ‘‘Well, i you went all that distance to get this training, you must have started out with the intention of getting the real thing,. and if appearances are any- thing to- judge by, I should say you + have-gotten what you went after., Do you know,” he said, ‘‘that with the training you hava got, it would put you at least three months ahead of any x&m;l entering the same time that you do?” . So it surely is_every man’s duty, not only to himself but to his coun- try, to be trained, because the better trained 2 man is before the call comes, the less it will cost the when 1 was talk- and he d money to put | ©f it, while they have -the ?fig{"fim}n m“’fife SHota, " b chance. FARMER HEARS MAXWELL : Toronto, S. D. Editor Nonpartisan Leader: “Rev.” Maxwell' has just visited Toronto, where he made a great hit with the townspeople. He tried to make an impression on the people to ! the effect that the League in itself” was all right, but he gave himself away towards the close of his speech by praising the good old parties. He appeared to have a personal ' spite against Townley and evidently because he could not get in his place as president. Gentlemen: :of the League, look out for such men! “"Who ‘pays him for his lectures? The big - % interests and the politicians. What would the League do with a man lik him for president? ; Again they ask us to drop the League until after the war. - That would be the most effective way to kill it and that is what the opposition wants. P. J. BUDAHL. KEEPING TRACK OF T. R. - ; Outlook Vale, N. D. I am herewjth inclosing another sheet from Successful Farming.
