Organization Is a Patriotic Duty An Aid of President Wilson Shows How Co-Operation Among the Producers Is More Neces- sary Than Ever Before RGANIZATION brings efficiency, and is a patriotic duty, says John H. Walker, who was sent to St. Paul as a member of President Wilson’s mediation commission’ in the recent lockout of the street car employes.” The = grave demands of the war make thorough organization of the workers a patrioticduty, Mr. Walker writes in the magazine galled the Organized Farmer. His statement follows: E Some corporations and individual employers are taking the position . during this grave crisis in our nation’s history, that for the period of the war, workingmen should not attempt to organize to get the things for them- selves and their families which they honestly believe they are entitled to. How men can claim to be patriotic Americans; how they can claim to be just; how they can ask other men to go in the trenches and fight and die for them and their families and their property; ask them to send their sons there to give up their all, to fight and die, be maimed or killed, for them, and then deny these same men’s fathers and brothers the right to associate themselves in an organization for the purpose of protecting themselves from wrong and injustice, and peacefully, lawfully, intelligently and systematic- ally, adjusting their relations between - them and their employers, is entirely beyond me. . Men have a right to organize in - times of peace. Their right in' this respect has been assented to by every court in the land, even by the courts that are unfriendly to labor, and- particularly at this time, they are not going to get men to agree to givg up their right to belong to an organiza- tion and place themselves in a helpless position and at the mercy of these corporations, to be dealt with unfair- " ly and unjustly or to get justice as an _act of charity. " This is a time when past wrongs should be discontinued; when men who . want the protection of others, should be willing to have their own acts stand out in the light of day on their own merits, as being honest and just “between man and man; and the man who refuses to do’ these things in this hour, is not only unjust and unfair and disloyal to our nation, but he is a traitor to the cause that our nation .and its allies are fighting for, and he is contributing more towards inter- ruption of needed war industries and creating mob law and a bolsheviki in our country than all other factors combined. i The strong hand of our government should require at this time, that no man would attempt to deny the com- mon people (the workers) their right to belong to an organization of their fellows. The workers everywhere ought' to insist on their right to or- ganize and they ought to organize, be- cause the underlying causes for in- dustrial strife are grievances, based on injustice, real or fancied, that can only be remedied through organized, intelligent and systematic dealing with them. If the waste of industrial strife is to be stopped or reduced to the mini- mum, it must be done through the ad- justment of all disputes on the basis of justice. So that it is not only right that the workers should organize.now, but it is a necessity that they do so, in order not only that they may get what is just, but that the nation may be assured the maximum efficiency. “What are you going to do with that ladder?” asked an honest citizen of a midnight marauder. “I want to be sure to get up in the morning,” said the second-story bur- glar, and passed on, leaving the hon. cit. to think it over. - Every pound of sugar means cargo space, and: cargo space is precious. : ' - PAGE THIRTEEN ADVERTISEMENTS What Is Nuxated Iron? Physician Explains—Says Public Ought to Know What They Are Taking—Practical Advice on What to Do to Build Up Your Strength, Power and Endurance and In- crease the Red Blood Corpuscles The fact that Nuxated Iron is today be- ing used by over three million' people an- nually and that so many physicians are pre- scribing it as a tonic, strength and blood builder in weak, nervous, run-down -condi- tions has led .to an investigation of its merits by designated physicians and others whose reports should be of great importance to the public generally. Among these, is the state- ment made by Dr. James Francis Sullivan, formerly physician of Bellevue Hospital (Out~, door Dept.), New York, and Westchester County Hospital, who says: “When one patient after another began asking my opinion of Nuxated Iron, I resolved to go thoroughly into the subject and find out for myself whether or not it possessed the real value claimed by its manufacturers and at- test: by so many prominent people. This is exactly what I believe every honest, conscientious physician should do before pre- scribing or lending his endorsement to any markable value as a tonic and builder. I have since taken it with excellent results. There are sands of delicate, nervous, rundown folks who need just such a preparation as this but do not know what to take. There- fore 1 have urgently suggested the wide- spread publication of the sworn statement -0f the composition of its formula so that the public may know what they are taking. This complete formula is now to be found in newspapers throughout the country. It is composed principally of organic iron in the form of iron peptonate of a special spe- cific standard and glycerophosphates which is one of the most costly tonic ingredients known. To the credit of the manufactur- ers it may be said that they use the most expensive form of iron peptonate, whereas by employing other makes they could have put the same quantity of actual iron in the tablets a§ less than one-fourth the cost and by using metallic iron they could have re- duced the cost to less than one-twelfth, but by thus cheapening the product they would undoubtedly have impaired its therapeutic efficacy. In my opinion a careful examina- tion of this formula by any . physician or pharmacist should convince him that Nux- ated Iron is to be placed among the very highest class and most strictly ethical prep- arations known to medical science. It ex- cels anything I have ever used for building up the system and increasing the red _hlt_)od corpuscles thereby enriching and fortifying the blood against the ravages of disease.” blood product whatsoever. If an article is worthless we practitioners ought to be the first to know of it and if it is efficacious we are in duty bound to.recommend it for the welfare of our patients. A study of the composition of the Nuxated Iron formula so impressed me with the therapeutic efficacy of the product that I immediately tested it in a number of obstinate cases. So quickly did it in- crease the strength, energy and endurance of the patients to whom it was administered that I became firmly convinced of its re- “Ih I“ You _young at lnd Of man?
