Mention Leader when writing advertisers _legislature in session, with their de- slackers or treacherous persons laud our forefathers for establishing this good government; they don't seem to think they committed any wrong when they bravely and heroically fought to become free and have their own gov- ernment, but they will not take up arms to help preserve this sacred legacy handed down to us. .When one supports the government with taxes, partakes in the political elections, etc, one shows that one be- lieves in government, and by so doing one helps to bring about war prepara- tions, etc, and is then just about as bad as the one that is behind the cannon in war.” Farmers’ Union for League HT following resolutions were unanimously adopted by the Ellsworth County Union, Farmers’ Educational and Co- operative Union of America, August 11, 1917: “Whereas, during the past several vears the Kansas branch of the F. E. & C. U. of A. has repeatedly passed resolutions demanding that laws be enacted that would eliminate discrimi- nation against the farmers and their co-operative institutions; and whereas hundreds of farmers have visited the mands, which all political parties have for several elections adopted in their platforms, which have promised the people the initiative and referendum and other laws favorable to the farmer, all of which promises and demands have been ignored by our elected rep- resentatives, “Whereas the National Nonpartisan league, which originated in North Da- kota, with national headquarters now located at St. Paul, Minn., carrying with it a platform containing few but intensely sound planks, deemed it ne- cessary to and did, in North Dalkota, | elect farmers to the legislature to carry out said platform, the bills initiated and passed by them being of such nature that other- states, including Kansas, are swinging into line and or- ganizing as fast as organizers can get | to them. “THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, | by the Ellsworth County Union of the | F. E. & C. U. of A., Kansas branch, that | we urge all farmers of Kansas to give the said League their due considera- tion and support with the view uf' filling the legislative halls with our brother farmers, that we may get through legislation our just rights which have long been ignored, and “BE 1T FURTHER RESOLVED | that a copy of these resolutions be sent | for publication in the Farmers’ Union of Salina, Kansas, The Mail and Breeze of Topeka, Kansas, and one copy placed on file with the country secretary- treasurer. F. J. HUSEMAN, County President. M. I. AMOS, | County Sec'y.-Treas. TWO THOUSAND AT PERHAM Perham, Minn., August, 1917. Editor Nonpartisan Leader: Another farmers’ Nonpartisan rally was pulled off at Pleasure Park, Sun- day, August 19. Organizer Munger wants to hustle a few more before Mr. Meitzen heads back for the South as | his home is in southern Texas. "The writer introduced the speaker. Mr. Meitzen was at his best and had an enthusiastic audience of probably 2000. Our friend, Mr. Hansen, owner of Pleasure Park, said there were between four and five hundred cars- besides teams. It is a delightful place to hold a rally and an A No. 1 host. Perham and surrounding country were ‘well represented. Farmers and business men were there from Becker county. Just watch Otter Tail county at the next election. Some of our law makers will get a much needed rest. Meitzen was roundly applauded all through 'h}s address.” His father's address in Ger- marn wis- well taken and some hearty laughing 'was indulged in. &4 - SAM G. WALLACE. JILLINOIS WANTS LEAGUE East Miline, 111, August; 1917. Editor Nonpartisan Leader: I inclose stamps for a sample copy of your paper. I did not know there was such an organization as the Non- partisan League until I saw an drticle in the Chicago American in regard to it and the election of Mr. Baer. The principles adopted by the National league come the nearest to my idea of . what is neéded at this time of any I: have seen. There are millions of labor- | ing men who are wanting just-such a party to come to the front. ‘I hope to see the Nonpartisan league organized in this state soon. I think it will be welcomed by many thousands. J. F. GAGE. ADVERTISEMENTS eed Winter Rye N O crops have paid better than winter rye this year. The U. S.
