% i T I A R BN D et Has your school a playground? Oh, not just a yard full of weeds, but a real playground with some apparatus on it; swings and teeters for the small children, and a good sand box with clean sand in it, and a slide, home made if you please; for the older ones a running . track, a base ball diamond, a volley ball court, a tennis court or a basketball court and a horizontal bar. All of these additions could be made to the school ground at a very small expense and a little effort. The actual cost of. this apparatus is about ten dollars. The running track should be from 50 to a hundred feet-long and should have the sod removed and the dirt rolled well to make it springy. The horizontal bar can be placed about five and a half or 'six feet from the ground, the dirt dug out under it and the place filled with sand so it will be soft and springy enough to avoid accidents. Your teacher can tell you about this if she Las not already done so. The boys We want to call attention of our friends and customers to these goods. HOLLIS Playgrounds on the Prairies will be glad to help do the work and you can all enjoy it when it is ready. If you’ can’t do it all this fall, start it and com- plete it the first thing in the spring. Of course you understand that some schools will not be able to use all this equipment on account of too small num- bers and too many small children, but on the other hand there is not a school in North Dakota that cannot use some of the above apparatus to good advantage. COMMENT ON THE MENU This ;contributor says with reference to the amount of food served, that one has to use one's Judgngept That is surely true and that is exactly what we want, your judgment of how much you prepare for the number you serve. In this case how much is served to three people ? This week, out of seven menus I have three that are about equally good. My decision had ‘to be based therefore on a minor point. In the' menu given above I think the cookies could be omitted at breakfast when honey or syrup is served,’ and either the Jelly or the sauce mlght . be left out. . : bk Mention tlul.ndet wtun annlls‘iuvu‘urfllgt:‘ A VISION OF SUCCESS Editor Nonpartisan Leader: Find enclosed $3 for subscription to the Dakota Daily Leader and also my photo.
