The state meeting of the Nonparti- san League held at Fargo was one of the largest gatherings in recent years. The auditorium was filled with people during the two-days’ session, the main floor packed mostly with farmers from various parts of the state and the overflow partly filled the great galleries also. Enthusiasm of the audience, attention to speakers and the sympathy of the delegates sur- passed anything that has been seen in any state convention in North Da- kota in many years. The speakers were among the men who had done the organizing work. They told how the work had been done and answered the newspaper criticisms and attacks in Grand Forks, Fargo and Bismarck papers. These attacks have from time to time told how the League was break- ing up and disintegrating; how the farmers had become dissatisfied and suspicious of those at the head of the movement; how the money had been squandered that had been paid in dues and various means used to create dis- trust and destroy the organization. These misrepresentations were taken up one by one and disposed of by the speakers to the amusement and satis- faction of the audience. — JAMES- TOWN DAILY ALERT. THIS EPITOR ASLEEP. Some time ago well - meaning friends advised us that we weuld know more about the Nonpartisan League after their convention at Far- go. We don’t, that is favorable. Many inconsistencies and. indications of gang rule showed in the manipulation of the convention and a ticket, pub- lished on the last page of this issue, was indorsed. — STEELE TRIBUNE. Paid Political Announcements Under this heading the Leader will print paid advertisements announcing the can- didacy . of any person for public office or pglitical parties within the state of North Dakota., These will be purely paid | for announcements of the candidutes and'{ political parties and their printing in these columns is not an indorsement either di- rectly or indirectly by the League or the: Leader. All announcements must be paid for .. advarce and rates 3will be made | knowa on application to- Advertising De- | partment of the Leader. . Political Advertisement FOR SHERIFF OF' BENSON COUNTY I hereby announce myself as can- didate for the nomination for Sheriff of Benson county on the Republican ticket, and seek-the support from all my brother farmers of Benson county at the June primary election. I have for 27 years been a farmer and still am, and also a scrapper for the rights of the farmer. We have now joined hands together and we must stay to- gether and work together and put out the old .gang that has so conmsfiently worked against us. I will again ask you farmers for your support at the June primary in Benson county, North Dakota. Sincerely yours, —MATT ANDERSON, Brinsmade, Benson County, N. D. Political Advertisement F. O. HELLSTROM : Candidate for Democratic Nomination for U. S. Senator Ran Over 3,500 Votes Ahead of His Ticket in :the March Primaries for Delegate to the Democratic. National -Convention. PLATFORM: , B : I believe that it is the duty of Congress ‘to 'provide public warehouses for storing, weighing and grading mon-perishable farm produce: That ‘the government should aid the farmer to provide free, open and cooperative markets for his produce. That ‘the credit of the government be used to finance :a National Agricul- tural commission, with: power to establish regional terminal agmpultuml asso- ciations, composed of associated cooperative farmers’ orgamizations for mar- keting non-perishable farm produce. That government "debénture bonds be sold by popular ‘subscription to finance the building:of terminal - warehouses; that the proceeds be loaned to the regional asseciations and seeured by first lien on the warehouses acquired. That the farmers’ -organizations be: associated in regions, that they __sub— seribe to the regional association .stock :and jbecome members in the regional association under rules and safeguards provided by the agricultural commis- sion: That the government nmake loans on such produce direct. That the govermment should own and operate war munition factories, navy yards and armor plate plants, and eperate merchafit niarine, vessels adapted for use in time of war as auxiliary cruisers, scout ships; transports, ete.. That the government should own and operate :all the trunk lines of all railways, telegraphs and telephones. ... That all forts and training-camps be converted-into-government -industrial military academies for the training of our young men to become efficient in the peacveful arts of industry and in military decipline, tactics and training. _That the government levy an income and inheritance tax that will exempt all incomes less than $5,000 per annum, graduated to fall heavily on the large swollen incomes and inheritances. I believe 'that ‘the limit placed on the postal savings depositor should be removed and that the postmaster general be authorized to loan the postal savings funds on first mortgage real estate loans direct to owner.
