AN Report of the Health Ofcer and Names of the Dead. [TWO CASES YESTERDAY IN NEW-YORK. | The fact that the Cholera has been raging violently in Germany, for some time past bes been woll-kuown in this city, 50 that the arrival of two sbips on successive days, freighted with the disease, caused very ittle surprise. Cases have recently been reported here from the Health authorities in London, that occurred among emigrants from Rotterdam and other Continental cities, and the warnings that the epi- | domic was on its way to our coast huve been unwmistakable. The scattering eases that have oocurred in the city were | merely the vanguerd of the evemy, developing his purpose | and arousing the officers to such precautions as they were able to make to prevent his advent. | 'Wo have not doubted, from the firet, that this disease would | make its appearance among us io an cpidemic form unless it | eould be thwarted by sach meas a8 the Board of Health might adopt, nor do we doubt it now. The causes for appre- bension have grown greatly within a day or two, and wo therefore, more in warning than in fo before our readers such news as we have been able to guiher concerning the progress of the discase. We fully believe that with proper care most cases of cholera may be cured; aud moro Witk the hope of preparing onr citizons for those ins! dious pre- monitory symptoms which always precede tho af ack, and to caution them against disregarding its warnings, than from any fear of large mortaiity list from the ravages of the epidemic, even if it should oceur, we announce the fact thut it still exists in the city In scattering cas Tt is true that these occur every year, and during tho Lealth- fest sensons our physioians are called upon occasionally to at- tend cases that arise purely from local causes, Now, however, when they arise in different parts of the city, while at the same time the diseaso broaks out spontancously, as it were, upon almost every emigrant ehip that arrives, they are to be regarded in a different light, and every case is necessarily surroanded by & somewhat paiufal interest. The second performance of the English Opera Com- pany last night was sttended by a large and brilllant sudience. Eichberg’s opers, which is very light aud pleasant, grows upon tho publio ear; it is just of the quality to take the pablio taste. Last night the music went smootber, and will doubtices lw- prove as artists sad orclestra work more together, The artists are feeling more at home in their roles. Miss Richings is, of course, & thoroughly trained artist, and be- sido Ler the novices, Miss Harrison and Miss Mozart, do not show to advantsge as sotresses; still they are by no means awkward or restrained, although they have not the tact to enter thoroughly {nto the spirit of tholr parts. But their lady- like deportment and very excellent singing make tbem at- tractive aids to a very excellent performance. Castle, Beguin and Peakes were good throughout, singing and scting capitally, This opers has got the ear of the publio, and it needs only certain things to retaln its held, and grow into s permanent success. We shall reserve our suggestions for a day or two, 1a order to give the company eud the conductor s fair chance to prove their positions. The opera will be repeated this evening. THE BEETHOVEN SOCIETY. The Boethoven Society of Yale College gave & Concert at Irving Hall last night, before a very large and fashionable sudience. The Society is composed of some fifty singers, with good fresh volces, good lutoustion, and fair sppreciation of effect. The tenor volces are ususually good, the basses rather lacking in depth and rotundity. They sang quite imber of pleces, with acourncy and spirit, and some of them with really excellent effect, and were most cordially and beartily applsnded. Their College songs were given with fmmense spirit, and were encored over aud over again, to the delight of every one. The success was so decided that we should Judge that another concert would pay well, ‘The planiet, Mr. C. Elliot, has a brilliant toucb, and a facile aud elegant execation. He won most euthusiastio escore, which he well doserved, GRAND ORPHEONIST SINGING FESTIVAL. This interesting festival takes place at Cooper In- stitute to-morrow and Saturday, at 1 o'clock, when, in addition to the immense chorus of children and men, those fine artists, Boschetti and Orlandini, will appear, fogetber with Mr. 8. B, Mills, Mr. R. Goldbeok, and s grand orchestrs. The con- duotors will be Mr. Theodore Thomas and Mr. C. Jerome Hopklus, Mr, Hopkins has worked mouthe to get up this festival, and we have no doubt but that it will be a brillisnt affair.
