10 TE FOUR PEDESTRIANS O'Leary's Views on the Contest and the Money Question. HE WANTS ° $2,000. What Messrs. Kelly.and Busbey Have to Say About It. ‘The unprecedented amount of gate money which was taken in during the recent international walk at Gilmore's Garden was a very lively topie of conversa tion in sporting and athletic'circles yesterday. Nevor before in any contest of this kind hare the figures run up so high or has such an-amount accrued to any ono individual as the plucky: little Englishman will be entitled to carry away with him, Thero has been somewhat of a delay in the settling up of the ac- counts, but this can very readily be explained, it is claimed, There haye been rumors freely circulated intimating fraud, but from all the Henarp reporter was ablo to learn yesterday if there has been any un- fairness practised it was entirely unintentional so far as the men,"their representatives or the manage- ment are concerned. Shortly after eleven o’clock yesterday morning Mr. Walton, of tho St. James Rotel, representing Harri- msn; Mr. Busbey and Mr. Atkmnson, on the “part of Rowell, and Mr. Hatch for Ennis, met in the rooms ‘of Manager Kelly, No, 15 West Twenty-tighth street. Ennis was also present, not particularly to look after bis financial interests—for they were being well enough taken care of—but because, as he said himself, he ‘“folt good,” and wanted to be moving about. The general understanding was that an accounting was to bo’ had, althongh itewas not thought possiblo that a final settlement could be made. The receipts as estimated in the Hemsip on Sunday.and corroborated’ by the figures published yesterday were, as will be seen by interviews with Messrg. Kelly and Busbey, in, the main correct. MANAGER KELLY'S ACCOUNTING. Mr. Kelly was quite communicative. After coke Ing in genoral terms of the walk, in answer to a di- fect question as to the actual ‘amount of money taken in he éaid:— “The receipts at the door were $51,600. It is true that there has been some dissatisfaction expressed, but not, so far as Iam aware, by any of the contest- ants or gentleinen connected with the affair.” «What trutn is there in the report that tickets ‘Were sold jn immense numbers on the outside with- ‘put being accounted for at the box office +’ “Now L will tell you all about that, That ques- Hon came up at the meeting this morning. ‘The gen- tral management of the thing was in my hands, but ou know = every one who was present knows frat there had to bea small army of subordinates pmployed. The next largest was thé ‘Cam walk, which I also managed, the Leary amount then being about $19,000.” The reporter subsequently made a visit to the Garden, where a force of men were hard at work — the place to rights, in order, as Mr. Kelly ia, that “can keep my word with Mr. Vanderbilt s yo the place over to his agent in just as good condition as it came into my hands.” “I hear that O'Leary is dissatisfied with tho $4,000, ‘as is proposed to allow him; what truth is there in os “At the meeting to-day O'Leary, through his backer, petites opel ok he wanted the $2,000 upon, that he did not want any ove to give him anything; he only wanted what was due him, and if he did not get that he would not tako anything. It is whispered in certain well informed sporting circles that an English party with some sprinkling of American interest has been for some time nego- tiating for the purchase of Poter, the favorite of the Derby, whose engagements have been cancelled by the death of his owner.
