TUE CAUSE OF COMPLAINT, The story m brief is asx follows:—Four Texas herders, employed in delivering at Irule Agency a herd of stock bought by the government last swn- mor, stole 120 head of Spotted Tail’s stock and hastened sonth with them. A band of Sioux started in pursuit, but were unable to over- tuke the thieves. The rumors to the contrary have grown out of thi ¢ sanguine anticipations of the “ins,” who in their representations to the head of the party at Wasbington before the election gave strong assurances of repu blican success in the State, to be brought about principally through their exertions, As these fair promises have not been fnfilled they are natu- rally uneasy as to the effect. Moreover, this feeling is intensi! the “outs, feat of the party was enti fied by the present energetic movements of who are busy showing that the recent de- y owing to the “un- fortunate position in which they found themselves” (that is, out of office), and so it is, the story runs, that important changes are to be made—because the “jus” fear it and the “onts” wish it, It ik safe to say, however, that the status quo will be for the most part maintained, and the battle being lost beyond recovery, the principles of civil serviee reform and the reten- tion of good men in office will be the only things con- sidered. ABOUT THE ELECTIO! The fact is, the belief is general im the best in- formed republican cireles here that no amount of ex- ertion co yuld have changed the result. There was neither the organization nor the money to offect it. On the other hand, the influences of the demor were fect as such things s and the organization of the party as p could be.
