House, the notorious divorce lawyer, for- Merly of No. 78 Nassau street, and more recently of No. 194 Broadway, was shot and killed by bis wile, Irene, at | their home near Lawrence Station, on the Pennsylvania | Railroad, about seven o'clock on Friday night, The Btory of Mr. House’s murder is a brief one. termination long looked for to one of the many quarrels between this strange couple. was @ peculiar one. Mr. House’s carcer as a divoree lawyer was notorious in the comunity. His mur deregs was at one time his client. Irene Anderson Van Zandt House, She is about thirty-two yeare old She is a dash blonde, moderately tail, and of good figure. Her father is a Bigar maker in Trenton. When about sixteen she mar- ried a man named Charles anderson, who is now an pfficial in the jail in which she is conflued at Trenton, fhey nad a son, who still lives with his mother, She quarrelled with her husband after living with him for some time, and, through the efforts of Mr. House, ob- tained a divorce from him. At this time House had a wife ana two children of his own This wite has since died, her death, it is said, having been hastened by worriment at House's loose bebavior, especially teward bis later partner. The children have died also, Prior to the former wife’s death House cohabited with Irene, who very soon seemed to exercise a mastery over him, Whether he was ever formally married to her or not is not a well astablished fack Since his former wife’s death, bow ever, they have lived together as man and wife both | here aud in New Jersey, but as man and wife in name | merely. They are said to have fought perpetually and have mutually threatened to kill the other as a settlement of the differences. The sequel shows that ono of the two kept her word. Until quite recently they lived in this ity. About the beginning of the present year House bought & farm of some 210 acres, for $10,000 cash, near Law- rence station, and was actively engaged in improve- menis upon it when his carcer was cut short by Mrs. House’s pistol. Anew dwelling was being erected, trees were planted, and efforts were being made in various directions to make it a pleasant and attractive home. But Mrs House did not relish those proceed: ings, as they betolened a more proloaged stay in the quiet country home than she desired. H. MeKevzie, County Physician, testified to having seen deceased’ on Friday nignt, lying in the porch; saw a scar about four inches im length over his forehead, two bruises on his nose and a bullet wound on the right temple; removed the upper portion of the skull and the bullet dropped on the floor; the cause of death was the bullet in the brain, Willam Hammill added nothing very material to the foregoing testimony, The case was then sobmitted to the jury, who retired, and, after 4 short absence, returned with the following verdict; “We, the jurors, called to inquire into the death of Orson A. Ricuaoxp, Va, July 1, 1876. A telegram from Charloston, W. Va, states that | Allen, the borse thief and murderer of Mr. Mitchell, the Marshal of Huntington, and Mr. Turner, the livery stable keeper, was taken from the jail of Wingfield, | Putnam county, and hanged by amob at nine o'clock this morning. A large number of mounted men were seen last night to pass through Barboursville, They arrived at Wing- field, the county seat of Putnam county, about seven | o'clock this morning. The jail was at once surrounded | by the party, the keys were demanded by them from the jailer at the peril of his life, and the doors were opened.
