SEVERE COMMENTS ON THE CONDUCT OF THE HARWICHERS. The'London Times’ editorial is exceedingly severe in its expression of indignation at the tardiness which was displayed by the people of Harwich in going to the scene of the wreck, The writer says that ‘the conduct of the people of Harwich is a disgrace to the English name. At the coroner's inquest the Harwichers say that they saw the first rocket, signalling distress, at half-past six o'clock on ‘Monday evening, 6th inst., but the fact re- mains that they knew it was on Monday morning.” THE WRECK PARTED IN HALVES. The further inquest will be opened on Tuesday. CAPTAIN KING'S TESTIMONY. At the inquest on the second group of bodies brought in from the wreck of the Deutschland, held at Harwich to-day, Cap- tain King, master of the tug Liverpool, was examined and testified that the coastguard notified him on Monday evening ot the sig- nals of distress, but on account of the storm it was not thought prudent to put out to sea until daylight, He did not believe if he had reached the wreck sooner that he could have commenced saving lives earlier than he did, because the sea was so high during the night. PRESS OPINION OF THE PUBLIC PROCEEDINGS, The London News editorially ridicules the Coroner's investigation, THE CONDUCT OP THE HARWICHERS. The News writer also asks for an explana- tion of why the Harwichers ‘treated the drowning men toa pyrotechnic display and then slept, in truth why they gave the ship- wrecked people rockets when they asked for oats from the shore?” THE BOARD OF TRADE INQUIRY. | The Board of Trade will investigate the cause of the terrible disaster after Christ- mas. A copy was given Henderson by me, and I sent to the Attorney General a despatch as follows:—‘The in- formation was without foundation in fact. Shall Henderson be discharged as special counsel?
