The stock market to-day was even more stagnant Shan that of yesterday. Contral and Hudson was again brought to the front as a sustaining power by purchases of 1,200 shares, which carried the price up to 1063, Thereafter sales were made at 10634. Michigan Central as also made to perform duty to the same end, and was walked up to 63%, against 6254 last night, These swo stocks being particularly sensitive, or in other qords but little dealt in, by the general speculators, ban be easily moved by moderate orders to either buy srsoll Union Pacific, after yesterday*s labors, was apparently permitted to rest, and as @ consequence some few transactions were made on a decline from 74 to 72%, with a final rally to 73, The fiuetuations {in Pacifle Mail were confined within the range of 34 per cent—to wit, 404 a 40 a 40%, much to the disgust of many operators who have loaded them- selves on the promise of realizing 40 or 60 for their stock. Western Union was again weak, declining from 7634 to 7534 a 75% a 15%, and this without the aid of new rumors, Lake Shore was held steady at 1% a6l%a 61% a 61g. Northwest and St Paul stocks presented no features, Hannibal and St. Joseph, both common and preferred, were strong, ad- vancing respectively }¢ and 1. Erie made again of % per cent in sympathy with the London market. The sperations in the remainder of the list are sufficiently explained by the following tables. THE MONKY MARKET. Money on call loans ranged from 2% to 4 per cent, with the close at the highest figure, Foreign exchange closed up dull and without any shange in rates. There was very little business after 4the closing of the mail. THE GOLD MARKET. "Gold opened at 114% and closed at 114X. All the sales of the day were at these figures.
