THEIR FIRST PROCES°ION IN NEW YORK—FES- TIVITIES AT MYRTLE AVENUE PARK. The Knights of Pytbias, a comparatively pew benevolent order, appeared in public procession for the first time in this city yesterday. There Were about 800 members in the ranks, and their unitorm—sword, baldric, belt, &c.—resembiing that of the Knignts Templars, tended to give the Pythians a very effective and attractive appear- ance. The occasion of the display was the meet- ing of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York in Brooklyn, and the brothers tn that city took an active part in the proceedings, There were pres- ent also lodges trom Poughkeepsie, Rondout, Jer- sey City and Hoboken, who were received on. their arrival yesterday morping by New York brethren. THE PROCESSION. The place appointed for the rendezvous of lodges was Washington square and the time nine A. M.; but tt was nearly half-past ten before the procession took up the line of marca, It con- sted of four divisions, with George W. Peek as Grand Marshal, The First division, consisting of New Yorx lodges, H. Lemmerman Marshal, rested on the worth side of Waverley place, right on Fifth avenue; Second division, visiting lodg' escorted by New York lodges, Nelson W. Young Marshal, right resting on left of First division; Third division, Brooklyn lodges, L. R. Steg- man Marshal, east side University piace; Fourth division, ununiformed Knights, J. Barry Marshal, right resting on left of last division. All the high officers of the Order were in advance, and before the lat ter was a platoon of policemen, The procession proceeded through Fourteentm street to Fifth avenue, thence to Broadway, and down Broad- way to Wall street ferry, Arriving at the ferry the Brooklyn lodges took charge of the members of the Grand Lodge, and, having received due honors from the New York brethren, passed across the river, They were immediately followed by the latter, and the march was resumed in the City of Churches. The procession passed through the principal thoroughiares until it Mnally arrived at the corner ef Fulton and Smith streets, where it was @ismissed. The heat of te day interiered much with the comfort of the men. ‘The ground travelled over was exceedingly long, and many had to fall out of the ranks. The Order of the Knights of Pythias was ogneae in February, 1864, in Washington, D. C., by J. Rathbone, He concetved the idea from svadving the unexampied and extraordinary ties of aifec- tion that linked together Damon and Pythias, The order is secret, and has many features io common with Freemasonry and Odd Feliowsbip. 1ts motto 18 “Friendship, Benevolence and Char- ity.” Considering the suort time it has been in existence, the Order has made quite rapid strides, There are 120 loages in the State of New York. with @ membership of 6,000.
