10 NEW YORK HERALD, SATURDAY, JULY {T, 1875.—WITH SUPPLEMENT, AMERICAN RIFLEMEN IN IRELAND CLOSE OF THE DUBLIN FETES Distribution of Prizes at the Exhibition Palace. Speeches by Major Leech and Colonel Gildersleeve. Interesting Events in the Dublin Shooting Matches. Dvsxry, July 4, 1875. The international sétes in Dublin ended last Evening, aiter a week of brijliant sport, whose joy was dampened by only one serious wetting, ea Friday, when the elements seemed to have conspired to render ali the competitors as miser- able as possible, Since Tuesday tue attendance at Dotiymount has not seen large, the shooting Ras been exceedingly spirited. Toe American riflemen have attended strictly to busine-s, working trom early morning BNtil late at night and while the attendant frionds and many ladies of the party have devoted themselves to a Journey to Killarney and the lakes. | ‘The festival closed with the public distribution of prizes at the Exhibition Palace last eveniny. A Very select, although not large, collection of spectators was present, and in the huge trausept ofthe portly building there were many merry groups of promenaders until a very late hour, The music of tie police and regimental bands enliveaed the promenading. The deco- rations—foral and with banners—produced acharming effect. On the platform sat tne Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress; Sir James Mackay, ‘Who presented the members of the Corporation, and a large number of ladies prominent tn society, and around them were grouped the American and Irish rife teams and other riflemen who have been successiul in the recent contests, The All Ireland Challenge Shield, a fine piece of massive atlver, superbly werked, hung in the ceatre of this group of notables, and placed mear it wus the superd vaso) =o whico tue American riflemen bave presented to their bretaren of Ireland, to be annually con- tested for. Tbe spectators were im excellent humor, and hailed the appearance of the two cap- tain#@-Major Leech and Colonel Gudersieeve— ‘With much applause. ‘ihe rifemen, wno had been bard worked all day, and who were sun- burned and weary, were very glad to get into their seats and listen to the music, the speeches and the murmurs from tue crowd, The name of every member of the American team is now as Well known as that of the Lord Lieutenant ‘hroughout Ireland, and every mention of Gildersieeve, Fulton, Bodine or Cojieman | last evening was the signal for a Mutter among the hundreds of pretty girls who swarmed about the platiorm. Tals pub, lic distribution of prizes has never occurred belore im Dublin, and was doubtless arranged by the untiring Major Leech and his able coadjutors as a special compliment to tae Americ in visitors. The Lord Mayor prefaced the speectes of the evening ‘With so: remarks in the highest sense compli- mentary to tue American people, announcing that | there was no other nationality whom he wouid willingly havo seen carry of the prize. Other | Speeches were made by mr. Foster, the Secretary | of the Irish Rifle Association; Sir James Nackay, and various members of the corporation. Major ‘Leech, just before the distribution of prizes, made ‘tne following remark: My Lorp Mayor—Now that the work of thts in- ternational reunion is Over and the festivities are almost at an end, aud as you have been guod enough 10 mention my name in 4 spirit of com- ation in connection with the contest, 1am glad to nave the opportunity, in presence of this company of Irisameu, to express my delight at Sue Success vi the Whole event, aud my peculiar Gelight to Know that not obly the American lade: gentlemen who have visited us, but w American peovle likewise, are satisfied with the maecner in which we huve eudeavored to treat our Iriends. OUR MARINE CORRESPONDENCE. Nawrorr, Rl, Jaly 15, 1875 Thesunken bark Bessie Rogers is now in the inner harbor \not Portland), having been towed there by the New York Coast Wrecking Co’s steamer Relief, from the upper harbor, with a view of having smoother water in which to discharge her cargo ot tron. After the cargo is all dischatged and sold, the vessel will also have to be sold by order of the insurance companies, one of which ia the Great Western Marine Insurance Co, of New York. It is understood that the New Yorm Coast Wrecking Co are to receive 65 per cent of the value of the vessel and cargo. John Coggeshall, Agent of the Board of Under- writers, has the entire supervision of the disposition of the vessel and cargo, and he nas been successful in sell- ing over half of the Iron at a fair price. He is now nego- tiating with several founderies in Massachusetts for the balance, and the prospect now is that the whole matter, which has been a long and a difficult one, will be settled atanearly date. Hundreds have visited the wreck since she was brought into the inuer harbor, and at present she is one of the objects of interest with the visi- tors at this watering resort MARITIME MISCELLANY, Siny CaLuponta (Br), Delaney ey. lett Capids, Conception.
