The course of the market to-day verifies the comments that have recently been made concern- ing itin this column, Although more or less of d@uiness prevailed, owing to the absence o! many Df the operators, prices were generuliy strong and fewarded those who were confident enough to hold securities through the late decline. A firmer andertore was also felt, aud many brokers were encouraged by orders from outside buyers, who doubtiess recognize the present as a good oppor- tunity for investment. A notable advance toox piace in St. Paul common, whicn opened at 31, after selling yesterday at 0, and moved up to and closed at 323, with a large gemand from the West. The preferred stock sold at 55a 55\4. Union Pa- cific was likewise one of the firm features, rising trom 743g to 753, the last price to-day. ‘The state- Ment of April business is published elsewhere. Northwest common sold at 874 0 38; Pacific Mail Was comparatively steady at 33% a 333%, Tne meeting of tae Executive Committee announced for to-day was postponed until to-morrow.
