Outside of the speculative market the events of the aay connected with the changes of commerce snd finance have been unimportant, To those who are Interested in stocks the principal condi- tion to be reported is one of alternate weakness and firmness, of moderate activity and much un- pertainty. While it is intimated that vartous pliques are quietly engaged in organizing for a bail campaiga, and fhat early movements will occur in some securities, there is no evidence yet presented which foreshadows dny plan of opera- fions. Fir the moment the general ten- fency is downward, but a hopeful feeling prevails, because ie is an impression that those who control the market are not yet Prepored to break tt or let it down with disastrous Results to those whose confidence has been 80 fecently evoked. New York Central, New Jersey Central, Rock Island, Harlem, Delaware and Lack- | wanna are comparatively weaker, but the really active securities coatinue to vibrate in the usual Bpeculative way. THE RANGE OF PRICES was as follows:—Lake Shore opened at 70%, ad- vanced to 70% and ciosed at 704;, St’ Paul com- mon sold at 37 a 373, a 36%. Panama, on odd lots, receded to 155, but sold during the day at 163, Erie opened at 297%, advanced to 304; and closed at 303;. Union Pacific moved from 7635 to 77}; and closed at 76%. On *Cbange there was considerable activity in grain, but nearly everything else was quiet. Flour was jairly active and firm, especially for tue higher grades. Wheat was fatty active and decidedly firmer, closing with @ still aavanctng tendency under @ good milling demand, coupled with a fair inquiry trom speculators. Corn was also active and higher, a good business being acored at the vanced figures. Oats were neglected. Whiskey Was easier.
