It was to-day Fumored that Mr. Faulkver, Chairman of the House Committee, intended to resign, and this Btalement was freely circulaved among the mem- bers, Although te duty !s am onerous one, Mr. Faulkner will not shrink from it, und expresses — an anxiety to perform bis whole duty, no matter ‘Who may be hurt by the investigation. The selec- tion of Senator Jacobs has given general satisfac- tion, 4 NEW CANAL MOVEMENT. A very important movement, touching the canal eontroversy, ison the eve of being sprung upon tne Canal Commissioners. THE CORPORATION MONEYS. ‘The legislative proceedings have been confined to-day to the transaction of routine business. The Bight session wus exciting. {n the Senate the bill im :elation to deposits of city moneys was passed. The Comptroller, Mayor and Chamberlain are constituted a board to make arrangements with the banks at a rate not less than toree per cent. The vote cast by these three gentlemen must be concurrent, The bill as amended will now come ‘to the Assembly for final passage. THE STREET CLEANING. The Committee on Cities this asternoon agreed to report favorably the bill taking away the street cleaning contract from the Police Commisstoners and giving it to the control of a Commissioner to be appointed py the Mayor, with the approval of the Board of Aldermen, it is now provable tnat @ mucn needed change will be made in tue admin- istration of affairs relating to the cleaning of the BMreets in New York city. CENTENNIAL COMMISSIONERS, Mr. Hammond reported a bill empowering the Sovernor to appoimt seven Centenntal Commis- Siouers, and making provision for necessary ex- penditures under the act. A NEW CHARTER. The “destroying angel,” so graphically described by Mr. Lawrence Kiernan waoeo a member of As- | sembiy, bas agula swept over tne Legusiatare, as exhibited im the bill imtroduced this evening in the Assembly to reorganize the local government of the city of New York. Mr. J. W. Miller, of Orange (dem.), Introduced she bill when it received a first and second read- img and was then reierred tothe Committee on Cities, When Speaker McGuire had thus disposed of the bili, Mr. Husted jamped to nis feet, and moved, to the astonishment of the New York delegation, that the Committee un Cities be re- Ueved of consideration of the bill and it be then ena toere referred to the Committee of the Whole.
