Stocks to-day were more lively than usual and prices advanced, The salient feature of tne Quy was Pacific Mail—a stock that happens to De available for both friends and enemies, Tnis Was advanced from 34% to 37%, the dealings amounting to the extraordinary figure of 109,000 shares. The closing price was 373; Western Unton opened at 73% and advanced to 75, the close Unio and Mississippi sold being made 4 lower. AL 24% a 255. New York Central advanced +s. from 11% to 124. Northwest common was an im- portant feature in the fluctuation market, open- Ing at 3934, receding to 38%, advancing again to 4034 a 40%, The preferred stock sola at 51% a 62a 52% a 68, St. Paul common was algo strong, im- proving from 32% to 34.
