Wherein she played it as well as the others she played the tra- ditional Rosalind, and while she kept to the tradi- tions she acted unevenly, sometimes well and sometimes ill, Wherein sae depaited from woat was traditiona: she was surprisingly good. Her shyness was not the arch shyness to which we have been accustomed, but biended embarrass- ment and reserve, to which @ little natural awk- warduess gave a very great charm. inhi was especially to be remarked in the third scene of the second act, were, after Orlando’s return just alter the first parting, she says— Sir, you have wrestied well and overthrown More than your enemies.
