Pacific Mai! continued to be the feature of Wat street speculative inquiry yesterday without developing anything new of a local natare. The evidence given in Washington was variously com- mented upon, the general criticism being of s sceptical character, and the parties in interes$ being all there, nothing could be learned here te supplement its tale. The interest in this matter for the present centres in Washington and Walt etreet is only @ listener. This much, however, cam be sald of the situation. Wall street is a most ex- cellent listener. The general current of iife 1m monetary and trade circles was otherwise undis- turbed by any fresh action of managerial or repre- sentative bodies, there being a remarkable dearth Of meetings, THE PRODUCE RXCHANGE agreed to adjourn over from fhursday next to | Monday following, tn commemoration of Christe mas; but declined to take simular action with ree erence to the New Year's holiday, postponing con- sideration of the subject to the immediate neces- sity of auch action, favorably or adversely. THE STOCK EXCHANGE k | Set its face, represented by the Governing Com mittee, against any adjournment in this conneo tion other than for legal holida; A petition, numerously signed, requesting an adjournmens frgm Thursday to Monday next week: had been Presented, but was not considered. The fact is “the boys” have had hard enough work earning commissions sufficient in six days of the week to meet expenses, and the Governing Committee think they don’t hanker after too many idle days.
