The pacer then closed up gradually, and at the three-quarter pole ‘Was only a scaut length behind. Rounding the tnrn American Girl made a slight skip, but settled down immediately. American Girt was a length $m tront as she entered the homestretch, but then Copperbotiom again made a determined rush at her, so that ata pot tiity pie irom the stand they were on even terms. Then the mare broke Up ana ran up to within alength o! the stand, but, Fesuming her trot just there, she went over the | gcore a head in front ot Copperbottom.
