The sea made aciean breach over the ship, siarting deck houses, deck load, and everything on the deck, ay weil as damasing stores, charts, breaking up cabin furniture, starting gallows beam ‘and washing sway water ports and bulwarks on port side. ¢he pumps Were then sounded, when it was iound she had two and a halt feet in the weil, which afterward increased to five feet, and part of the crew were stauoned at the pumps while the remainder of the hands | were employed throwing the deckload — over- board. The hurricane still continued ; 0:30 sea caine on board, washing several of the hands from the pumps, among whom was the captain, his leg being broken by the vio- lence of the fail, ‘The man at the whee! was also thrown down and the steering gearcurried away. The maintopgallant yard went through the main deck, mak- ing a hole of some 3 feet square, causing large quanti- ties of water to get below.
