The storm still operuted to check business in commercial circies, but on the Stock Exchange there was apparenta buoyant tone, with a firm disposition in some of the leading shares. THE PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY | was in Union Pacific, Lake Shore, St. Paul, North- | west, Western Union, Wabash and Pacific Mall, at | the second call the market showed generally an aa- | nce of % to 14 per cent upon the opening | prices. Thence the market continued active to | ‘the close in thé general list, marking a further | fractional advance, excepting in the Western shares, Union Pacific sold up to 35%, and Han- nmibaland St. Joseph common from 24% to 2634; the preferred from 29% to 30%. OUR FOREIGN TRADE. ‘The total imports of foreign dry goods at this port for the week ending to-day were $2,431,288, and the amount marketed $2,742,652, The imports | for the corresponding week of jast year were | $2,846,146, and for 1872, $3,250,871. Tne Bureau of Statistics at Washington makes the following ex- hibit of our soreign trade for the fiscal year ending | June 30, 1874:—The total imports were $595,861,243; | domestic exports, $629,252,156, and foreign ex- ports, $23,780,338, This is a very favorable exhibit, and shows a decrease in the imports of merchandise in 1874 of $74,729,868, an increase in domestic exports of $64,519,031, and a decrease in foreign exports of $596,3¢4, The movement of specie and bullion shows an increase in 1874 of $6,973,060, a decrease in domestic ex_ ports of $14,205,860, and in foreign ex- ports of $3,772,309. The value of foreign commod_ ities remaining In warehouse June 30, 1874, was | $59,705,753, against $77,585,973 June 30, 1873, peing 8 decrease of $17,878,225. Allowing for the difer- ences in the warehouse account the exports for the fiscal year 1874 exceed the imports by $39,203,021, while for 1873 there 1s an excess of im- ports over exports of $101,155,959.
