The open- ing was made with @ confident undertone ap- parent, and until one ovclock there was a moderate advance; but after that hour the pubii- cation of the bank statement and its record of a decline in the excess over the legal reserve oper- ated aga sort of wet blanket, and there was a de- cline. The largest advance was made in Michigan Central, which rose trom 9234 to 9544, Union ranged between 764 and 75%, closing at 76, Northwest common opened at 694%, rose to 59%, sold down and closed at 68%.
