The above named gentieman died suddenty in hm bedroom at his hotel in Cincinnati on the 1st inst. He had been an invalid for some time past, but his death was quite unexpected, at least by those wha were not acquainted with the character of nis malady—heart disease. He was the eldest son of Senator Thomas Yorke, of New Jersey, and was born in Salem county, New Jersey, December 13, 1832, After receiving an elementary schooung in his native place he was sent to Rensselaer Unt- versity, at Troy, N. Y., where he graduated asa | civil engineer. Shortly after he removed to New York city and commenced the practice of his pro- fession, At the outbreak of the Rebellion he enlisted in the Seventy-firss New York regi- ment as @ private. He served with his regiment through the term of enlistment, viz., three months, and was particularly commended for gallantry at the battle of Bull Run. The deceased, though simply @ private at that Le was selected by hig | comrades of company to command them, Shortly after this ming he was appointed by President Lincoln Captain in the Thirteenth re ment of regulars, and joining his command at jer ferson barracks, Missouri, Was on duty with it in the States of Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee.
