On ’Change to-day cotton “on the spot’ was dull, while for future delivery transactions were light at a decline of + a 2c. per Ib, Flour was ‘quiet, but firmer. Wheat was steady, and corn ‘active and firmer. EXPORTS. Our outward flow of produce continues to 6x- hibit its favorable contrast with that of preceding months and years. For the week ending to-day ‘the export trade shows an aggregate in domestic produce and merchandise of $5,725,915 in mixed Values against $4,395,843 in 1872, and $4,976,521 in 1871. The total exports from January 1 to date are $134,640,920 against $101,833,340 in 1872, and $110,- 591,091 in 1871, In contemplating these figures it is always to be borne in mind that two-thirds of the imports of the country come direct to New York and are re- ported, while on the other hand fully three-fifths of the exports are distributed along the coast, and ‘enter only into the general statement made through the department at Washington. Hence the full value must be measured from week to ‘week by the proportions above mentioned. THE COTTON ESTIMATE, ‘The official report of the Agricultural Bureau ‘shows an average increase of cotton acreage over ast year of nearly 12 per cent. The present condi- ‘tion of the crops stands as follows:—Florida, 2 per ©ent above the annual average. ll the others fall Delow—viz., Virginia and Alabama, 7 per cent; North Carolina, 15 per cent; South Carolina, 12 ‘per cent; Georgia and Louisiana, 6 per cent; Mis- sissippi and Arkansas, 8 per cent; Texas, 14 per. cent, and Tennessee, 10 per cent. The acreage cultivated will fall considerably be- jow that planted. The weather generally during ‘the last week in May was favorable, and there was Hopeful prospect that the condition of the crop would rapidly improve. Worms and caterpillars have made an early appearance at varioy points, and cre causing considerable apprehension of de~ structive ravages. No estimate of the crop is made, THE WHEAT CRor, ‘The oficial report of the Agricultural Bureau on the wheat crop shows a large increased acreage Dver last year, with good prospect for more than ‘aD average yield per acre. Borrowers with the usual collateral security on call are supplied at 4a per cent, and prime mercantile paper matur- ing in the Fall commands 6 a7 per cent. Asa con. sequence of the July disbursements it is not im- probable that during the latter days of the month money will be a trife higher for the moment. AS a sequence of London advices, as well perhaps of the report of the Agricultural Bureau concern- ing the disappointment in the cotton crop, gold was stronger to-day, although it seems strange that any rise should take place just at the present juncture, unless there be some propelling personal power bebind. Opinions are not se thoroughly antago- mistic as to the course of gold hereafter as one would suppose, The vest informed claim to have Bnticipated the present and even a lower figure, but at the same time they express the belief that certain speculative agencies are at work, which, in Spite of ali governmental, commercial or local in- Muences which may be exerted, will have the effect” of materially advancing the price later in the Beason. MEMORANDA. An adjourned meeting of the North Carolina bondholders will be held to-morrow (Wednesday) at three P. M., at No. 35 Wall street, for the purpose of further considering the legal measures neces- sary to enforce the payment of the interest due on the North Carolina bonds. It is understood that about eight hundred thousand dollars’ are repre- sented in this new “syndicate.” The new rooms of the Importers and Grocers’ Board of Trade, at the corner of Wall and Water streets, were formally opened this afternoon. An address was delivered by Mr. William A, Booth, the President, who reviewed the history of the organization since its establishment, in 1871, and the results that have been achieved through this agency. The establishment ct a new line of steamers be- tween Norfolk and New York is being discussed, the chief object of the undertaking being the en- largement of commercial facilities between the two ports in the matter of conveying farm produce, Ata meeting of the Atlantic and Pucttic Railroad Company hela to-day the following Board of Di- rectors was elected:—Oliver Ames, North Easton, Mass. ; QOzias Bailey, White Cloud, Kan.; Frederick Billings, Woodstock, Vt.; E. Morrill, Bos- ton, Mass.; Andrew Pierce, Jr., New York; Joseph Seligman, New york; Andrew Y. Stout, New York. A very decided feeling exists among the direc- tors of the Pacific Mat! Company with reference to the importance of screw instead of side- wheel steamers as profitable adjuncts of their line, Experience is demonstrating even now that the company cannot suc- cessfully compete with the opposition that has been established on the Pacific coast by English screw steamers, and the only remedy existing ts to place the marine of the company upon such a foot- ing as will forbid competition and compel success, Owing to the absence of certain oMicials of the com- pany no action was taken to-day, but it is said that among the enterprising members of {he direction there is au earnest and energetic desire to develop | the fullest resources of thé company, place it upon a healthy basis, and, if necessary, issue additiona, bonds to give strength to the present fabric. An- other meeting will be held on Thursday next for the purpose of discussing the subject more in detail.
