Ca April 26, 1873, The Secretary of State authorizes the statement that no charges or suspicions exist in the Depart- ment against Clayton McMichael, of Philadelphia, the Assistant Commissioner from Pennsylvania. That gentleman is now at sea, on his way to Vienna. A detailed report of the investigation taking place at Vienna inte the affair of the trafficking Commissioners is expected shortly, and at the earliest possible moment the suspen- sion of all who shall not appear to be implicated The committee conducting the investigation consists 01 Mr. Jay, the United States Minister to Vienna, and Mr. Thomas McElrath, himself one of the suspended Commissioners. recommend the temporary suspension of the whole Commission, will be removed, Back Pay Returns. Ex-Representatives Peters, of Maine, and Cox, of New York, have sent to the Treasury the amount of their extra pay. New Series of Internal Revenue Rules. The Internal Revenue OMce has issued a new series of rules and regulations duties of collectors and deputy collectors under the act of December 24, 1872. DENNISON, U.8. 5. pili Tee Domestic Troubles the Cause—His Wife, the Widow of the Late Commodore Woodworth, Trying to Obtain a Di- voree—Letters from Each of the Parties, {From the San Francisco Morning Call, April 19.) Shortly atter tweive o'clock noon yesterday, Erasiaus A. Dennison, who held a commission us eee in the United States Navy and had een assigned to duty on hoard of the steamer Saranac, committed suicide at the lodging house on the northeast corner of Dupont and Washington streets by shooting himself through the head witn a revolver. ‘The suicide was a native of Columbus, Ohio, about seven years of age, and a iman’ oi tine per- wppearance., He was a son of General Den- -Postmaster General and ex-Governor of Ohio, He graduated at the Annapolis Naval School in 1865. About two years ago he married the widow of Commodore Selim «. Woodworth, and having obtained leave of absence, he shortly aiter his marriage went on a wedding tour through burope, and on his return here rejoined his vessel. The marriage, 1 appears, Was not a happy one. On Thursday night the Suranac returned trom a cruise, and Licutenant Dennison, s00n alter com. ing ashore, received a letter from his wife, of which the following is a copy :— San Francisc Lieutenant E. Dennison, United State ac — Sin—During your absence T have long and painfully considered our relations for the past few months. Lt will perhaps be no surprise to you to learn that [ have irre ably resolved never t6 live with you again, and T shall atonce take steps to procure a divorce. ‘It there be any necessity for communicating with me it must be done through the Messrs. Rodgers, my attorneys. LESSETTE DENNISON, Accompanying Mrs. Dennison’s letter was one from her attorneys, in which they informed Lieu- tenant Dennison that they had been instructed to | Institute proceedings for divorce. While in a state of intoxication he went to the house of Mary Pleasant, No. 920 Washington street, where Mrs. Dennison resides with her children, and engaged in a conversation with Mrs. Picasant about Mrs. Dennison.
