The weekly statement of the associated banks is ‘anfaverabile, and shows not only a loss in met and surplus reserve, but an outward movement of @ioney as between the city and the interior. Despite an enlargement of credits to the remark- able extent of over seven millions of dollars, the increase in deposits is only a little over three millions, An increase of less than half a million in specie—the consequence of the lighter customs payments of the week—is more than offset ‘Dy a less in legai tenders, so that the surplus re- Serve is impaired about a million of dollars. The rate on eall ranged from 1-82 to 7 per cent, with the bulk of the day's business at 1-64 and interest, The closing rave was 7 per cent, which for a Saturday ‘afternoon was more than te usual experience of rthat occasion. The Euro- pean steamers took ont $474,000 specie, of which $350,000 was gold. The Sub-Treasury paid out $230,000 on account ef intere: nd $8,700 on ac- count of redeemed five-twenties. THE SYNDICATE AND TUX LOAN, The Syndic te continue to reinse making any announcement of the extent of the subscriptions to the new loan until the returns are more com- pietely within their possession. spired, however, to indicate that the cash subscrip- tions have been enough to justify the call o' bouds made by the Secrctary of the Treasury for the lar of June and that enough subsc:iptiens by exchange of five-twenties, here and in Europe, have been re- ceived to warrant a second cali of one hundred ini lions soon after the latofduue. In otner words, the subscriptions have becn for about two hundred millions, The Syndicate announce the reopening Of the books for subscriptions aBtil further notice, GOVERNMENTS STEADY. The government list was steady, with, toward the close, a brisker demand for the five-twentics, which carried the '67's up to 116% a 116%. The new fives were nominal and negiecied, The following were the closing quotations:—United Staves cur- rency sixes, 115 a 115%; do. sixes, 1851, registered, 117 117%; do. do., do,, coupon, 118% @ 11334; do. five-twenties, registered, May and November, 1155¢ 11534; do. do, 1862, coupon, do., 115% @ 115%; do. do., 1864, do. do., 115% a1153,; do. do., 1865, do. do., 115% a 115%; do. do., 1867, registered, Jan- uary and July, 11434 @ 114%; do. do., 1866, coupon, do., 1143, @ 11434; do. do., 1867, do. du., 116% a 116%; do. do., 1968, do. do., 116% @ 116%; do. ven-forties registered, 1115 a 11174 ; do. do. coupon, 11434 a 114%; do. fives of 1881, registered, 113 a 113}4; do. do., do., coupon, 113 a 114, STOCKS STEADY. The stock market in its general features was comparatively steady and less active, The dis- appointment at the only partial success of the new loan caused weakness at the start, and prices fell of 4 @ 44 per cent, but the demand movement was arrested by a “covering” of “short contracts on the part of the “beara,” who had looked ‘or a" serious “break,” and, not finding it, closed their interest, On the other hand, the “bulls,” who had been waiting for the success of the Syndicate to Make & market, were equaliy disappointed, were only too giad to supply the “bears,’’ who were covering. Hence the general steadiness re- ferred to. Erie was active at 66 a 675, on a rumor that THE THREE @ND A HALF PER CANT DIVIDEND on the preferred stock would be declared next week, and, in addition, 1% percent on the common. Pacific Mail declined te 753; on the statement that the Henry Chauncey is now several days overdue at this port. Western Union ranged trom 90% to 915;, but on the announcoment that the Executive Committee had ratified the sale of the 15,000 shares disposed of by the President for the purchase of the Cuba cable, went off to 90%. Boston, Hartiord and Erie “acted curiously” in rising to9% and then falling suddenly to 8X%. Hannibal and St. Jo. was weak and declined to 5034. The general list was heavy after the bank statement. In the Southern State bonds the Tennessees were 4, lower, the Missouris +; higher and the gen- eral market steady and dull. HIGHEST AND LOWEST PRICES.
