AMERICAN COLONIZATION SOCIETY, ‘The annual meetingof the New York Branch of ‘Whe American Colonization Society was held yester- gay afternoon in the society's offices, in the Bible House. The report of the Board of Managers was read by ev. George W. Sampson, D. D., and in substance is As follows:—After referring to some diminution in Abe collections in aid of the society during the past Year, which the writer attributes to “the occupa- ‘tion of the public mind with the Presidential clec- Aion," it continues as follows:— By the present arrangement for sending eml- ‘ants new colonists are occasionally brought to iew York, They are visited by reporters of jour- gals which control public opinion Srrgnghnes the entire country, and new impressions of the yore character of the people sent out to Liberia and their high aspirations in their mission to the land of their ancestors are begining to prevail. This was especially illustrated in the ard of the 150 emigrants trom Georgia sent out ut a few weeks since, when the comfortable ar- fangements for the emigrants and the hberal provision tor them by the Liberian government aud the Colonization Society, were commended in @ spirit of candor and even of eulogy. The recent Xplorations in Central Africa prom as they have the English government to initiative efforts for the suppression of the slave trade, have erongnt into favorable contrast the ameliorating ind persuasive influence of colonization in Africa by Christian natives.
