HERALD hae given to the public so much and such accurate information in reference to the proceed- ings as te make the divines who compose the Court regret that they did not throw open their doors to all representatives of the press at their first ecasion, The guilt or innocence of the ac- cused has been very thoroughly canvassed im this city ‘since Saturday. His friends silege that the publication of the charges and insti- tution of the ecclesiastical court were simply parts ‘of-a preconcerted plan to blast his character and estroy his uscfumess in Baltimore, and that they ‘will so show, while his accusers declare that he is guilty, and that they were never more certain of proving it. They assert that they have yet much vevidence to bring forward that cannot be contro- verted. But there can be no doubt of a better tone of sentiment to-day than heretofore. As a sensation, this trial is swelling into larger propor- tions, and the public have never been 50 eager for the slightest particle of information about the progress of the trial as they are exhibited to-day. The manner in which the investigation is being conducted is a subject of comment; but, per- haps, no better plan could be devised, save that it puts the witnesses to considerable inconvenience by compelling them to go on the stand more than once. The charges are separated. THE QUESTION OF SEDUCTION 1a now before the Court and evidence to that charge only being heard. Continuous to this, licen- Phillips read a series of resolutions, which approve of ail associations of workingmen as a means of training their members to co-operation and of fixing the working classes; denounce violence* and inter- ference with personal liberty, but belleve strikes are expedient and necessary, and congratulate the parties in the late strikes on their success; advocate the establishment of a congress of labor unions; regard co-operative associations as a cure for most of the evils suffered ‘by workingmen; hold the lessening of the hours of labor as a necessity; express favor for a government scheme to reduce interest to two or three per cent and abolish the banking system; that all dividend-paying compa- nies should be obliged to divide one-haif of the net profits among the laborers, and that imported pauper labor to work on long contracts should be subject to duty. EDUCATE THE LABORER, S. P. Cummincs made an earnest address, in which he argued for an education which would fit the workingmen to go down to the bottom of the industrial system of the day and overturn it, and put in its place a correct system. What was wanted was f0 have all classes, including the pulpit, which now only preached in general to the capitalists, come to view the labor question from its true stand- point, Out of this agitation he hoped that labor would clasp hands with capital and go forward to the development of the land, and hence he wel- comed in a broad spirit all classes assembled at this Convention, as tending to build up and not tear own. E. 8, WEEELER spoke in favor of the text that tious cohabitation will be the charge to follow. A Bumper of witnesses for the defence in the seduc- | tion case were present this morning at the parson- age, on Biddle street, The Court was called to order promptly at nine | a, the unconsumed products of the past belong to the | present.
