————————_———_—— THE DREDGING OP THE HARBOR, ‘fo me Eprrox oF THE HERALD:— Noticing in the Henayn report of the proceedings ‘of the Department of Docks a statement which seems to point to the Pot Commissioners as the cause of the non-dredging of the slips Tdvem it proper to state that by 4 law of the State it is provided that the mud taken from the slips shall be deposited inside of @ bulkhead for Alling, or on the land above high water mark, or in a place designated by the Pilot Commissioners. In the ex- ercise of this discretion, and to save expense to owners of slips, the Pilot Commissioners have for fifteen years allowed dredgings to be deposited in the deep cnannelway, below Oyster Island, in the hope that it would either be carried out to sea by the currentof the North River or spread over the Jersey flats.
