The thieves denied having been in Hoboken at the time of the robbery, but the authorities are im possession of suiticient evidence to prove not only that they were inthe city at the ume, but that they are the men who carried otf the booty. The young messenger, Fuller, has identi. fed them as the men who knocked him down and robbed him, An examination in the case will be held to-day, THE MACE-COBURN STAXES, Dick Hollywoed, the Referee, Gives His Reasons for Deciding Mace the Wirner, In response to a letter written by Harry Hill, as Stakeholder in the Mace-Coburn affair, to Dick Hollywood, the referee, the latter gives the follow- ing reasons for the decision he rendered:— First, he says, he did not think it possible to have a second meeting in Cunada without interruption by the authorities, and therefore selected Kanaas City, as it is peopled by a sporting community and. prize "fights have come off there before witnout imterrupt Another reason for selecting Kansas City was to get rid of the rough element, hose acts the principals ure held accountable, New or other places might nave been selected, but only azard of doubling” exper Mr. Mace, the referee, saw the wisdom of the decision, kuew it to be final and determined to abide by it, Mr. Coburn did not, and Mr. Hollywood therefore ees no reason why Mr. Hill shoud not pay over the stakes to Mr, Mace, since there is no appeal from a referee's decision. Mr, Ho!lywood says, in concluding his letter: — Thereby order pay over to Mr: James Mace the amount of) the stakes fonght for, belng: as he is the man entitled to th ‘urthermore, 1 well know what and responsibilities of referee are, and I will nobody to dictate to me what they ton T woul! say I am well satisiied to leave it to the candid, thinking and honest minds, who will pho! ing in my decision, antiif Ihave erred it is becauaa and not of the heart. ibiaeasien Hoping Jpa wilt do as ordered above and bo governed ac- cordingly, T remain, yours, reapeetfully, RICHARD HOLLYWooD, Sonth Iiinois street, Indianapolis, Ind. ed following appears in the articles of agree- ment:— ‘The referee to be chosen on the ground, In case of magia- terial interference the referee, it appointed, or the stake. holder if not, shall name the next time and place of meeting, if poasible on the same day or in the same week, and either party failing to appear at the time and place specified by that oficial, to 1o8e the bate money. The naval olficer was subpoenaed to testify in his trotber's bebalf, and tify the bond. The complainant's friends have denied certain portions of this testimony, and accused the Naval Oliver ot perjury. on which charge he will be tried.
