The international racs to-morrow wil form an important epoch in the history of yachting, Great as was the excitement in Engiaud prior to the con- test for the cup carried off by the America, the feel. ing on this side of the Atlantic on the eve of a sim lar struggte is one of the deepest interest, not un- mingled witn enthusiasm, It wil be the yaelting event of the year 1870, in the same degree as was the America’s race in 1861, All things considered a very great coutra t cannot be drawn bevwoen the two. In the latter year the apjearanc: of the Ame- Tica did not create more intere tin Engiand than the arrival of the Cambria in American waters. Good humored surprise was ex- pressed by some, ill natu annoyance by others, but the most singular ununimity Of opinion prevavied that the ‘Yankee’ (as she 1s improperly styled) would outsail creation, except, atleast, another ‘Yankee,’ the Maria, Yet still the lurking hope which ever fliled Mr. Micawber's bosom that ‘some- thing might turn up’ to save the honor of the old land was lingering around many a heart. And now and then the cheerful assurance was borne forth that even if the America carried off th: cup this time there would be halfa score of Engiish schooners uns time twelve Mouths ready and able to beat her, * * * Southamp ton was filled with visitors, Cowes was crammed— Seurcely a ved to be had for love or money.
