SERIOUS RESUT OF A CAAMIVAML {From the Utica Observer, July 26.) A serious affair occurred in Frankfort, Herki- mer connty, last night. The particulars, as far as we have learned them, are as followa:— It seems the daughter of a may named Garlock, who resides on the Welsh Bush road, was married last week, and she and her husband took up their abode with her father. Soon after eleven o'clock last night the ears of the young couple and of Mr. Garlock were greeted with some very unrusical sonnds, and the three soon ascertained that a party of fifteen or more men were outside en- gaged in ‘‘horning’” them, as it is termed, making a dreadfal din to annoy the young couple. The old gentleman steoped out and remonstrated with the party, and songht to ascertain who some of the disturbing party were, whereupon he was at- tacked by the gan and severely beaten, and, itis supposed, left for dead. kily he was not dead, although he had sas- tained some very serious injuries. Due care was bestowed upon him, and the hired man was des- patched to this city for medical assistance. He sacceeded in securing the services of Dr. I, J. Hunt, who, with his son, James G. Hant, as as- sistant, accompanied the man back to the scene of the disturbance, where they arrived about two o’clock this morning. The wounds of the injured man were found to consist principally of two very severe cnts on the head. These were sewed up and tho wounded man was otherwise properly attended to. Dr. Hunt visited him ngain to-day and found him suffering considerably. His con- dition is not, however, considered dangerous. They, being a military reservation, are by law shut out from any possible assistance from traders, who are not allowed to deal with the natives, or even furnish them with the necessities of life, without great risks to themselves and thoir property. They have neither food nor clothing, and readily offer five dollars for a single cracker, while Kentacky to- bacco, worth eighteen cents per pound in this city. has been actually sold for fifteen dollars per pound on these islands. The politicians who are schenting about how they may turn the scale of trade with Alaska, so as to line their own pockets, are respousible for this state of affairs, which can be vouched for by the affidavits of those who have tonched at these islands on their return to this city. In the name of humanity let something be done, if every sense of boner is quenched in the breasts of those who wield the destinies of the unfortunate inbabitants of these distant islands; let humanity at least plead their canse.—San Francisco Bulletin. of Drownrna CasvaLty,—Yesterday afternoon, while Mr. Ezra Spicer, of Amboy, was in the woods pecling bark, his wife and four little girls were drowned in Cowan pond, about four miles from Williamstown, which it is supposed they at- tempted to cross in a boat to pick berries, as paila were found in the boat, which was wrigdete dh ree of the bodies have been recovered and diligent search is being made for the others.
