General Ampudia assumes command of the Beya- mo and Manzanillo districts, Consul General Buidic, who was sick with yellow fever, is recovering. His wife 18 now tll of the disease, Sir Charles Bright, chief engineer of the Panama and West India Cable Company, ac.ompanied by Mr. Gall, of Jamaica, leaves for Batabano to-morrow, from which polnt he will commence the laying of cable to Jamaica. The Destruction of the Forward—Rumored Invasion by American Filibusters—A Report of a Secret Treaty Between Presidents Grant and Juarez. The government organs approve the act, while the imperalist journals call it a violation of Mexican territory, There are rumors of an invasion of the Rio Grande States by Americans, The government is reticent in giving particulars of the Guatemalan invasion. It 1s reported that a secret treaty exists between Juarez and President Grant, the latter guaranteeing the Presidency of Jnarez in consideration of a cession of Mexican Territory. Porfirio Diaz has issued a manifesto, The engineers and surveyors of the Tehuantepec Railroad have returned to the capital, and report everything favorable for the work. VIOLENT STORM. Fearful Storm in Cannda—Nember of Bulld- ings Destroyed iu Montreat=Tetegraph Wires Blown Down, MONTREAL, Canada, July 14, 1870, One of the most fearful storms which has ever vistted this country swept over Montreal last even- ing. It commenced about five o'clock, and actually levelled everything in its way. A large number of buildings were utterly destroyed, and hundreds were severely damaged. No loss of lile, however, has been yet reported, Two of the large freight sheus of the Grand Trunk Railway wore prostrated, and tho loss in them must be nmense. All telegraphic communication with the city was stopped, ihe wires having been blown down as far west as Lachine. ‘The city is in a state of frantic excitement, and Tumors ave spread of still greater damage at other points from the violence of the storm, Storm in Maine—Barus Blowed Down and a Man Kille ’. Lewiston, Me., July 14, 1870, This afternoon a violent wind storm passed north of thiscity, In North Auburn the barn of Hooper Conant was blown down; and in Green the barn of Stinson Parker was blown down. In this city but Mitle damage was done, ona house being struck by lightning, with slight damage. Trees were twisted and prostrated to the adjoining towns. The storm was much more severe and (he damage greater in Hampden, Orring- ton, Bucksport, Brewer and Holden. NASHVILLE, July 14, 1870, ‘The northern bound passenger train on the Nash- ville and Decatur Ratlread broke through a bridge near Lynville yesterday eand fell into the stream. Tom O'Neal, @ telegraph repairer, received injuries from which he died last night. A brakeman named Jones was desperately injured. ‘Ten passengers, among whom were several ladies, were more or less injured, some of them serionsly. ‘he passengers were chiefy from Tennessee, Tho wounded were promptly supplied with medical at- tendance and otherwise provided for. The trial of G. W. Mannix, on tnaictment for violating the neutrality laws, was commenced this morning at nine o'clock. H. 0. Cheesboro, of Canan- daigua, counsel for Mannix, sald he was authorized to withdraw the plea of not guilty as to the last two. counts, which charge the prisoner with providing ‘boxes containing arts and ammunition, which were siipped to him, and through him furnished to the Fenians, Mannix was @ captain during the rebel- lion. Mr. Dorsheimer moved tor judgment. Judge Woodruff, ia sentencing Starr, said it was a Hoful duty; the case had been suimitted to an un- assed and intelligent jury, who had tound the only ossible ver.lict for a conscieatious jury to render. ‘The former service of the prisoner in detence of the country ied the entire community to expect from him obodtence to the Jaws.
