Fenian Agitation in Great Britain. ‘Italian Reclamation Against Swiss Neutrality. ROME. ‘The Infallibility Debate=Jesuits’ Ald. Parts, June 8, 1870. Advices from Rome state that the Ecumenical Council is now engaged in discussing the Schema de Primatia et Infallibititate by sections, The debate on the preamble has closed. There have been one or two exciting passages between the supporters and opponents of the proposed dogma, but at Present the minority are silent and passive. A great demonstration was made yesterday in favor of Papal infallibility. The Jesuits were the prime movers in the affair. A large procession passed through the streets bearing banaers inscribed “Viva Papa Infailibile.” Prelatical Remonstrance. Rog, June 7, via Paris, June 8, 1870, The fathers opposed to infallibility have presented ‘an addreas to the Pope through the Cardinal Legate, remonstrating against the violent proceedings by which the meeting of the 3d inst. was dissolved and the debateon the preamble of the schema brought to an abrupt close. They complain that fifty members, who had given Notice of their intention to speak, remain unheard, among them Monseigneur Dupanloup, and protest against tne vote by which the debate was termin- ated, declaring that it was carried by surprise. The address received the signatures of 100 members of the Council. Napoleon’s Position—French Interests, Rome, June 8, 1870, It ts asserted that about the Ist of May M. Oliivier gent a despatch to the French Ambassador here, in- structing him to make no more efforts to restrain the action of the Council. The Marquis of Banneville accordingly suspended negotiations on the subject with the Papal government, but told the French bishops that « was their duty to defend the opinions Of their government, and advised them to do all in their power to obtain modifications of the schema. It is now added that the Duke de Gramont, since his accession to the Ministry of Foreign Aifairs, has Confirmed the instructions of M. Olivier. French Opinion. Parts, June 8, 1870, L'Opinion Nasionale speculates on the prospects of ‘the minority in the Council, and asks if such men as Bishops Dupanioup and Strossmeyer, and the Archbishops of Paris and Rheims, are to allow the supremacy of the Jesuits and be struck dumb in their sPresence. ENGLAND. Fatal Calamity. ~ LONvOR, Tulle 1579 Yésterday afternoon a melancholy accident oc- curred off the port of Hastings. A large number of people were out in a pleasure yacht, when a squall came up and capsized the vessel. It is not yet known how many lives were lost, but the number will certainly exceed twelve. The cala- «mity has cast a gloom over the city of Hastings, where all the unfortunates resided. Accident and Panic. Lonvon, June 8, 1870, A distressing accident occurred at the Alhambra Concert Hall last night. While the ballet was in progress and the scene was crotwded with dancers one of the large trap doors in the centre of the stage gave way. A number of the dancers who were grouped on the spot were violently precipitated into the space under the siage, which was unusually deep and was filled with machinery and theatrical lumber. Eleven of the unfortunate girls were badly injured, some of them, it is feared, fatally. The catastrophe caused a panic in the audience, which, however, had no serious results. Parliamentary Tactics. Panis, June 8, 1870. The Consti‘utionnel (independent tmperialtst) has @n editorial to-day advising the Cabinet to depend -on the party of the “Left” in the corps, 1t is said that the articie was written by M, Ollivier, Feniauism, Lonpow, June 8, 1870. ‘There is still some excitement and anxiety about the Fenian operations. Condition of the Craps. Lonpow, June 8, 1870. From the various agricultural papers of England are gleaned the following detuils relative to the growing crops:—The wheat looks finely everywhere, and a crop larger than the average may be ex- pected. Grass is unusually thin, and the hay pros- pects are discouraging. Oats, bariey and beans look poorly; farmers count on about halfacrop. Of po- -tatoes and other root crops the yield will be about ithe same as usual. Genera! fre: Lonvon, June 8, 1870. The telegrams which were received here yesterday from New York, announcing the rumored toss of the eteamer Dacian, with the West India cable, caused deep regret. ‘The hope ts everywhere expressed that the story is groundless, A new scheme for regulating admissions into the Civil service has been promulgated. ‘The telegraphic service of the Kingdom is still de- wanged. Lonpon, June 8, 1870, A Continental telegraph company, with sub- agencies in the principal cities of Europe, knows nothing of any recent disturbances in Roumania, The manager declares the telegram of Adolph Cre- mieux to be an exaggeration, and says that all Teports touching the slaughter or banishment of the Roumanian Jews are baseless. Diligent inquiry here and on the Continent fails to discover any foundation for the terrible stories which have been published in the United States, SWITZERLAND. Executive Neutrality. In an interview held with Mr. Fesser yesterday, by one of the reporters of the HERALD, the subject in relation to the Cuban bonds, which was so fully set fortn in the Washington correspendeuce of yester- day's issue, was talked over with the view of throw- ing additional light ou the matter. In this conversa. tion Mr, Fesser acknowledged that the bonds were de- posited in (he Safe Deposit Compauy of Washington, not for the purpose of <ndeavoring to influence meni: bers of Congress in the matter of the recognition ot belligerents’ rights for Cuba, but for the purchase of arms to be used by the Cubans in thetr efforts to free the island irom yee Mr. Fesser staies that he, as tle agent of the Cuban Junta, agreed to purchase a Jarge quantity Of arms; that these arms were to be paid for in Cuban bonds, at a Valuation of so much on the dollar: and farther, that the arms were to be delivered to the Cuban authorities in New York on or prior tothe 1st of Fepruary, 1s7u. For some reason or other the contractors failed to fulfil the conditions of their contract, and having so failed the bonds were withdrawn from the company Where they were deposited. General Butler's tnve: tigation had nothing whatever to do with that with- drawal, and Mr. Fes: declares that, so far as the Cuban agents are con 1, there was no Intention, either directly or indirec' to influence, by corrupt means, members of Congress in the matter of Cuban beliigerency.
