PINANGESL AND COMMERTL. WwW, STREET, 1, ; Tuvuspay, Woy toes Pat} The course of the markets has been unsettled, The result at the close was-a lower range of prices for Gold, governments and stocks, Money was easy at B to 5 por cent, STOCKS EXCITED AND UNSETTLED—A “BREAK” Av THR CLOSE. ‘The earitest transactions in stocks were dect ledly bulijsh and the market exceedingly buoyant, Re ad- ing opening at 106, and Oh’o and Mississippt soon after advancing to 39%, tis rise being due to a small panic on the pars of the shoris, who rushed to cover thelr speculotive sales, Later i the day, the market having im the meautime become heavy with the deciine in gold and the “break” in Pacific Mail, prices suddenly dectincd a hal’ to two and a half per cent, the cause of the sudden change being, as alleged, a renewal of the quarrel between the two houses whose hovtiliy was the causo of the sharp decline last week. The other cliques are highly iadignent av the quarrels of the parties referred to, imasimaci a3 they interfere with their own plans by demoralizing the generat mar- Ket, and heartily wish “a plague o? both your houses.” The Moutagues of Exchange pace sold out heavy instalments of Ohio and Misstesippt for the purpose of “spillmg’ stock out of the hands of the Capulets of Broad sirect. At least such is ihe gossip which foxted through that gossippy place—the Loay Room. ‘The report of the aiiaus of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company 19 Hot ready as yet, but is antictpated evi- dently in the deci.ne of the sioek, Whien ran down to 8544 Uns afternoon, The “bv ars’? were quite jubt- lant over the turn im the tide and assisted the gen- eral decline by @ persistent hammering. The transactions in the market were not on a large scale, and the few buyers were reputed to be purchas- ing for the clique operators and some foreign Houses, who look for specie shipments in the immediate fu- ture. The outskie speculators have again trans- ferred.their attention to the stock market, which 1s 80 full of wide and frequent fluctuations, while the most that gold promises is a movement of only a few per cent, The ioliowing is the record of the principal quotations:— 10 A.
