The oficial army register for Septemper 1, 1969, recently issued by the Adjutant General, though the largest and iu many respects Ule vest of its Kind, does not differ materialy trom the one published in the Herat of Juve 21, 1669—nearly eght months ago. As tho register for thia year is now overdue we have revived and corrected the Sepiember re- gister up to the 10Uh tnst., and the full digest which we give herewliit will be found to anticipate all the information of general interest that will appear in the official register for January 1, 1870, now being prepared in the Adjutant General’a office, but not Ukely to be ready for publication before April. If the three armg of the service were increased to the maximum the total numer of oficers would be 2,802, Lhe total number of enlisted men 53,236, and the aggregate 55,414. One thousand Indian scouts may be employed in the Territories and Indian country, with cavairy pay and allowances, The number in the service 1s 625. BixXty-tivee guperinteudents of National Cemete- ries are empioyed, Wili Lue pay and emuiuments of ordnance sergeants, Being civilians they are ex- cluded from the organization table, as are also the four veterinary surgeons allowed to tle Seventh, Kighth, Nunta and ‘Tench cavalry. CASUALTIN®6 TO SEPTEMBER, 1869, From Janusry 1 to September 1, 1869, there were two bundred aud thirty-two casualties, as follows:— Resigned, sixty-seven; vacated, one; ted py Dew appouitiient, seven; declined, three; died, thirty-tiree; expired by Constitutional limitation, (noc consirmed by the Senate), ninety-six; wholly reured, Six; dismissed, fourteen; cashiered, five. ‘ahege casualties Involved @ 1083 Lo the service of one hundred and twenty-eight officers only, as, with one exception, ail tie appointments not con: firmed by the Seuate were breveis, and one of the ofticers dismissed (Captain Frederick W.
